The 8351B is a three-way coaxial monitor from Genelec's The Ones family, announced on 5 September 2019 as a revision of the 8351A. The update raised the maximum output, added equalised delay, and combined the electronics of the 8341A with drivers from the larger 8361A. It sits between the 8341A and the 8361A in the coaxial range.
Key specs that matter
A 25 mm metal dome tweeter sits coaxially in a 130 mm midrange cone, and two 218 x 101 mm obround woofers handle the bass. All three sections run on Class D amplifiers, 250 W for bass and 150 W each for midrange and treble. The crossover points are 320 Hz and 2800 Hz. The -6 dB bandwidth runs from 32 Hz to 43 kHz, with ±1.5 dB accuracy between 38 Hz and 20 kHz. Genelec quotes 113 dB or more short-term, 103 dB long-term and 118 dB peak. Inputs match the 8341A, with analogue XLR, AES/EBU in plus thru, and a pair of GLM network ports. Standby consumption is under 1 W, idle draw 16 W and full-output draw 200 W, on 100 to 240 V mains. Including the Iso-Pod, the monitor is 454 mm high, 287 mm wide and 278 mm deep, or 433 mm tall without the stand, and weighs 14.3 kg.
Engineering and use context
Two obround woofers are concealed behind the front waveguide, and their placement makes them acoustically coaxial with the midrange and tweeter, so the whole driver array radiates from one point. This lets the listener sit closer to the monitor without the separate drivers being heard at different distances. The waveguide shapes dispersion across most of the frequency range, and the die-cast aluminium enclosure uses Genelec's rounded Minimum Diffraction form with a reflex port. Its switch bank offers Desktop reflection compensation plus the same bass, treble, level, digital, ISS, LED and Stored controls found on the 8341A. When connected to GLM, the monitor receives calibrated settings which remain stored in the unit. The Iso-Pod can be moved to side threads for horizontal placement, and four M6 threads on the back accept mounting hardware. Dark grey, black and white are standard, with RAL custom colours available.
Pairing
The 8351B is used in stereo or multichannel monitoring systems fed over analogue XLR or AES/EBU. A matching W371A woofer system can be added under it, or a Genelec SAM subwoofer can extend the bass further.
Alternatives
The Genelec 8361A sits above it in The Ones range, with two 263 x 137 mm woofers, a 700 W bass amplifier and a 30 Hz lower limit.
