Pro-Ject Tube Box E is a new MM/MC phono preamplifier from a well-known audio equipment manufacturer. The compact model uses a pair of ECC83 tubes and is offered for only £249.
Despite the price, Pro-Ject Tube Box E offers a number of high-tech audiophile solutions – for example, a fully discrete circuit design without using any operational amplifiers is used. The circuitry is made according to the dual mono standard, and the RIAA curve equalization is carried out in two approaches – passive and active. FET input stage and polystyrene capacitors are the standard of much higher-class equipment, but Pro-Ject Tube Box E can boast of this too.
The main power supply is a well-filtrated high-voltage anode, multiple internal power supplies are used to power other circuits. Pro-Ject Tube Box E has switchable input impedance (10 ohms, 100 ohms, 1 kohm, 2 kohms), the user can also adjust the input capacitance (47pF, 147pF, 267pF, 367 pF, 487 pF and 587 pF).
