Cayin has updated its flagship HA-300 headphone amplifier, introducing the third-generation version – the Cayin HA-300 MK3. The new model retains the core features of the design: single-ended Class A circuitry, 300B tubes in the output stage and an external power supply. However, compared to its predecessor, the device has become noticeably more mature both in engineering and in practical terms: the manufacturer has revised the circuit, expanded headphone compatibility and refreshed the amplifier’s exterior design.
At Cayin, the bet is that the new version will preserve everything that makes 300B tube amplifiers so highly regarded: a rich midrange, vivid timbre reproduction, expressive vocals and a sense of natural musical flow. At the same time, according to the manufacturer, the new model should offer a cleaner and more composed presentation, lower noise levels and better control over the sound. To achieve this, the design incorporates a stabilized low-noise voltage amplification stage and an independent power supply architecture, which, according to the developers, should have a beneficial effect on microdynamics, texture and soundstage depth.

One of the amplifier’s key features remains the power supply housed in a separate chassis. This solution is not only a status-enhancing design element, but also serves a very practical purpose: to minimize the influence of vibration, interference and stray electromagnetic fields on the sensitive audio stages. In addition, the split-chassis layout makes system placement more flexible. The two units are connected by a dedicated cable designed to ensure stable power delivery with minimal losses.
Serious attention in the third generation has been paid to compatibility with different types of headphones. Cayin is clearly seeking to move away from the image of an amplifier designed only for a narrow circle of select models. The device is equipped with a balanced 4-pin XLR output rated at 6.5 watts per channel, a 6.35 mm output delivering 6 watts per channel and a 4.4 mm Pentaconn output providing 1.6 watts per channel and optimized for in-ear monitors. There is also a three-stage adjustment that allows the amplifier to be matched more precisely to different loads.

Thanks to this, the Cayin HA-300 MK3 is suitable not only for hard-to-drive full-size models, but also for more sensitive headphones, including IEMs. Such versatility is especially important for listeners who do not limit themselves to a single pair and use different headphones for different genres, recordings and listening scenarios. As a result, the amplifier comes across not as a niche accessory for one or two flagship reference models, but as a genuinely flexible centerpiece for a personal audio system.
In terms of connectivity, the Cayin HA-300 MK3 also goes beyond the boundaries of a typical headphone amplifier. In addition to a balanced XLR input and an unbalanced RCA input, the model offers not only three headphone outputs, but also speaker terminals for connecting loudspeakers with an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms. This allows the unit to be used not only in a desktop personal audio system, but also as an amplifier for compact loudspeakers, significantly broadening its range of applications.

The amplifier’s construction underscores its high status. The circuit uses DUELUND capacitors, third-generation wide-band EI output transformers, a toroidal power transformer with reduced magnetic noise, point-to-point wiring, gold-plated tube sockets, a JRC MUSES 72320V volume control and a 41-step ALPS attenuator. Cayin also notes separately that the tube set is selected and undergoes a 48-hour burn-in before shipping. The amplifier is additionally equipped with VU meters, a delayed mute function after power-on, and support for replacing the tubes with compatible alternatives, opening up room for fine-tuning the sound character.
Externally, the Cayin HA-300 MK3 looks neater and more modern than its predecessor. The model has received a redesigned chassis with a delicate sandblasted finish, new protective tube cages and a more cohesive, refined overall appearance. Cayin is clearly positioning this unit not simply as an attractive tube component, but as a serious tool for the dedicated listener who is looking not for a compromise solution, but for a true flagship amplifier. Information on pricing and the release date of the Cayin HA-300 MK3 will be announced later.
