The F702 is the mid-sized floorstander of Fyne Audio's F700 series, the Scottish company's upper-tier range built around its coaxial IsoFlare drivers. The F700 line combines neodymium motors, magnesium compression tweeters and cryogenically treated crossovers with curved birch-ply cabinets and metal plinths, and the F702 is designed for mid to large rooms. A later F702SP version added an upgraded crossover and terminals.
Key specs that matter
The F702 is a 2.5-way design with one 200mm IsoFlare point-source driver, its mixed-fibre cone riding on a fluted roll and carrying a coaxial 25mm magnesium-dome compression tweeter on a neodymium motor, plus a second 200mm multi-fibre bass/midrange driver. Crossover points are 250Hz and 1.7kHz, in a bi-wired low-loss network whose bass filter is second order and treble filter first order. In-room response reaches from 30Hz to 34kHz at -6dB. The speaker is rated at 92dB for 2.83V at 1m into 8 ohms and suits amplifiers of 30 to 200W, with 100W continuous power handling. Each speaker measures 1,111 x 384 x 440mm and weighs 30.5kg, in Piano Gloss Walnut, Black or White.
Engineering and use context
In the 2.5-way layout, both 200mm cones reproduce bass, but only the upper IsoFlare cone continues into the midrange above 250Hz, so the lower driver adds cone area and output in the bass without widening the region where two drivers overlap. The compression tweeter mounted in the throat of the upper cone keeps treble and midrange radiating from one point. Fyne's multi-fibre cone is rigid and light, while the FyneFlute roll surround has a shaped profile that terminates cone energy at the edge instead of reflecting it back into the cone. A flux-focusing magnet in the motor raises low-frequency sensitivity. The cabinet uses two internally tuned cavities, and the port fires downward into a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser built into the plinth, spreading bass evenly around the speaker. The crossover components undergo deep cryogenic treatment, and a fifth terminal on the rear panel provides grounding to keep radio-frequency interference away from the signal. The curved cabinet walls are made from birch plywood.
Pairing
With its high sensitivity and easy load, the F702 works well with moderate-power tube and solid-state amplifiers, and its deep bass extension covers most music in a medium-sized room without a subwoofer. Bi-wire terminals allow separate runs or bi-amplification, and the grounding terminal can be connected to the amplifier's chassis ground.
Alternatives
Fyne Audio's own F703 is the largest floorstander of the F700 series, for larger rooms.
