The Vintage Ten is a passive two-way floorstander in the Fyne Audio Vintage Series, launched in autumn 2022 as the 10 inch model beside the 12 inch Vintage Twelve, with the Vintage Fifteen and Five following in 2023. Designed by Dr Paul Mills, it pairs traditional cabinetwork with the company's point source driver technology and is sized to sit in smaller listening spaces than the bigger models. Each unit is made, tested and hand finished in Glasgow, and the Vintage Series itself was announced as three high-end floorstanders with 10, 12 and 15 inch drivers. The UK list price is GBP 17,999.99 a pair with VAT.

Key specs that matter

A single 250 mm IsoFlare point source unit uses a stiff multi-fibre cone for bass and midrange, with a 75 mm titanium alloy dome compression tweeter and neodymium magnet system at its heart. Fyne Audio gives the response as 26 Hz to 26 kHz, stated as typical for a room at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 94 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m, and nominal impedance is 8 ohm. Recommended amplifier power spans 20 to 280 W RMS, continuous power handling is 140 W RMS and peak handling is 560 W. Each speaker is 1040 mm high, 468 mm wide and 489 mm deep, and weighs 54.6 kg.

Engineering and use context

Crossover takes place at 750 Hz through a passive, low-loss, bi-wirable filter using 2nd order sections, assembled by hand on custom boards and deep cryogenically treated. With the tweeter set into the middle of the bass cone, both bands radiate from one point, and the cone edge uses a FyneFlute surround. The cabinet is made of sustainable birch ply as a twin-cavity enclosure, mathematically curved to reduce internal standing waves, braced extensively inside and clad in an oiled walnut veneer trimmed with solid walnut. Walnut and Clear are the listed finish options. A downward-facing port vents onto a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, which spreads low frequencies around the cabinet. An HF energy dial moves the band above 750 Hz by up to 3 dB up or down, and another analogue dial alters the 2.5 kHz to 5 kHz region by the same amount.

Pairing

Its high sensitivity and benign nominal load let the Vintage Ten be driven by amplifiers near the bottom of the maker's recommended range as well as from high-power designs. The split terminal panel allows bi-wiring with two separate cable runs.
