The Vintage Fifteen is the 15 inch passive two-way floorstander of the Fyne Audio Vintage Series. It arrived in 2023 together with the compact Vintage Five, joining the Vintage Ten and Twelve, and it introduced a new 15 inch driver to the range. As with the other Vintage models, it comes from the drawing board of Dr Paul Mills and is built, tested and hand finished in Glasgow. In the UK a pair lists at GBP 29,999.99 including VAT.
Key specs that matter
A 380 mm IsoFlare point source unit using a stiff multi-fibre cone handles low and mid frequencies, while a 75 mm titanium alloy dome compression tweeter with a neodymium magnet system fires from its centre. The maker quotes 22 Hz to 26 kHz as a typical in-room figure at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 97 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m, and nominal impedance is 8 ohm. Recommended amplifier power is 20 to 400 W RMS, continuous power handling is 200 W RMS and peak handling is 800 W. Each speaker stands 1152 mm high, 683 mm wide and 691 mm deep and weighs 92.9 kg.
Engineering and use context
Both drivers cross over at 750 Hz through a bi-wired passive crossover with 2nd order low and high pass filters, hand-built on custom boards with deep cryogenically treated components. The cone is terminated by a FyneFlute surround. The sustainable birch plywood cabinet uses two internal cavities whose walls follow mathematically derived curves to cut standing waves, and it is extensively braced inside. Its finish is hand-oiled walnut veneer, solid walnut edging and burr walnut inlays, set off by gold anodised metalwork. Under a downward-firing port sits a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, spreading low frequencies evenly through 360 degrees. Two analogue dials tune the upper band - HF energy by up to 3 dB either way above 750 Hz, and a second dial covers 2.5 kHz to 5 kHz by the same amount. For the S-Trax option the maker specifies a position 178 mm from the cabinet front, and 154 mm for SuperTrax.
Pairing
Such high sensitivity means a modest amplifier can drive the speaker, while the top of the recommended range gives headroom for high-power solid-state designs. The nominal rating is an easy load, and the divided crossover inputs accept bi-wiring.
Alternatives
A smaller choice is the Fyne Audio Vintage Twelve, a floorstander from the same Vintage Series, built around a 12 inch driver.
