The Vintage Classic XII is a Fyne Audio two-way passive tower, designed by Dr Paul Mills and styled after the ambitious British home loudspeakers of the 1970s. It was among the first models of the Vintage range shown in Munich and launched in September 2022. The Vintage Classic line holds four models - one standmount and three floorstanders built around 8, 10 and 12 inch drivers - and the XII uses the 12 inch unit. Key specs that matter

Its IsoFlare point source unit joins a 300 mm stiff multi-fibre cone for low and mid frequencies with a 75 mm titanium alloy compression tweeter placed centrally, driven by a neodymium magnet system, so both bands radiate from one point. Fyne Audio quotes 25 Hz to 26 kHz as its typical in-room response at the -6 dB points. Sensitivity is 96 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m with a nominal impedance of 8 ohm. Recommended amplifier power runs from 20 to 350 W RMS, continuous power handling is 175 W RMS and peak handling reaches 700 W. Each cabinet is 948 mm tall, 550 mm wide and 421 mm deep and weighs 54.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Handover between the drivers happens at 750 Hz in a bi-wired low-loss passive network with second-order slopes, which is hand-built on custom boards and given Cryo-Lite treatment. The cone is held by a FyneFlute roll surround. Low frequencies leave the enclosure through a downward-firing port that feeds a BassTrax Tractrix diffuser, spreading bass energy through 360 degrees. In line with the Vintage Classic styling, the cabinet is square-fronted and wider than it is deep. It is built from high-density fibreboard with extensive internal bracing and comes only in walnut veneer, with a black baffle and a magnetically attached grille. Two analogue dials alter the upper range - an HF energy dial shifts the band above 750 Hz by up to 3 dB either way, and a second dial does the same for the 2.5 kHz to 5 kHz region. A separate grounding post is provided for the driver basket. Each speaker is made, tested and hand finished at the Fyne factory in Glasgow.

Pairing

Given its high sensitivity, the speaker needs little voltage to reach high levels, so even an amplifier near the bottom of the recommended range is usable, and the nominal load presents little difficulty to solid-state and valve designs alike. The split terminals accept bi-wire runs from one amplifier.
