The F501SP is the Special Production version of Fyne Audio's F501 floorstander, built, hand-finished and pair-matched at the company's own factory in Scotland. Fyne Audio's SP models bring drivers, crossover parts and bass-loading technology from the upper-tier F700 and F1 ranges into the more compact F500-series cabinet, and the F501SP was tuned by technical director Dr Paul Mills. It is a 2.5-way design that adds a dedicated bass driver beneath Fyne's coaxial IsoFlare unit, extending bass and output beyond the F500SP stand-mount.

Key specs that matter

The F501SP combines the 150mm coaxial IsoFlare unit, pairing a mixed-fibre cone on a fluted roll with a central 25mm magnesium compression tweeter, with a second 150mm multi-fibre bass cone. Crossover points are 250Hz and 1.7kHz, set by a bi-wirable passive network with a 12dB/octave filter on the cone and 6dB/octave on the tweeter, built from Cryo-Lite-treated parts. Frequency response is 36Hz to 34kHz (-6dB typical in room), sensitivity is 91dB at 2.83V/1m and nominal impedance is 8 ohms. Recommended amplification is 30 to 180W, with 80W continuous handling. Each speaker measures 984 x 288 x 320mm and weighs 21kg, with gloss walnut, gloss black, gloss white and natural walnut finishes.

Engineering and use context

In the IsoFlare driver, the high-frequency section sits in the throat of the larger cone, sharing one acoustic centre and axis with it, keeping their timing and dispersion aligned in every direction. The compression tweeter uses a powerful neodymium motor with a vented rear chamber to move its resonance well below the crossover, and the pole piece forms a computer-modelled waveguide that controls wavefront expansion out to 30kHz. The FyneFlute surround is a roll surround with flutes moulded at intervals, which breaks up resonances where the cone edge meets the surround. In the 2.5-way layout, the lower bass driver is rolled off above 250Hz, so it adds output only in the bass while the IsoFlare handles everything above. The cabinet uses a twin-cavity loading system, and the vent exits through the floor of the cabinet onto a flared BassTrax cone in the aluminium sandwich plinth, which spreads the port output all round the base so the speaker is more forgiving about wall proximity. The aluminium driver chassis carries diamond-cut detailing, and the plinth is anodised machined aluminium.

Pairing

Its high sensitivity and benign load let the F501SP work well with moderate amplifiers, including valve designs, and separate terminal pairs permit split amplification. Its downward-firing port eases placement in medium-sized rooms.

Fyne Audio's own F502SP is the larger version with 200mm drivers in a taller 30.4kg cabinet.
