The F502 is the bigger floorstander of the F500 Series from Fyne Audio, a now discontinued range that also included the F500 bookshelf speaker, the F500C centre channel and the smaller F501 floorstander. Fyne aims the F502 at larger listening rooms. Its last listed price ran from GBP 2,299.99 to GBP 2,529.98 per pair depending on finish, with Dark Oak and Black Oak veneers plus black or white piano gloss offered.

Key specs that matter

The layout is 2.5-way with a pair of 200 mm drivers. The upper unit is an IsoFlare design carrying a 25 mm compression tweeter at its centre, and the lower unit handles bass only. Signal is divided at 250 Hz and 1.7 kHz by 2nd-order low-pass and 1st-order high-pass filters. The rated range is 30 Hz to 34 kHz at -6 dB, typical in room. Sensitivity is 91 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m, nominal impedance is 8 ohm and continuous power handling is 90 W RMS. Height is 1114 mm, width 322 mm and depth 380 mm, and each speaker weighs 25.2 kg.

Engineering and use context

With IsoFlare, the tweeter is placed coaxially within the mid and bass cone so that the whole band comes from a single point, an approach Fyne describes as isotropic energy radiation with point source constant directivity. The tweeter has a neodymium magnet with a vented rear chamber and a waveguide-shaped pole piece. Both units use multi-fibre paper cones with fluted rubber surrounds and are mounted on rigid cast aluminium chassis. The internal volume of 64 litres is split into a twin cavity coupled reflex system inside a rigid MDF enclosure, and both the front and rear baffles are curved. The port exits through the cabinet floor into a separate MDF plinth with adjustable spikes, which holds the BassTrax Tractrix diffuser. That profiled cone converts the port output into a 360-degree wavefront around the base of the speaker. The crossover is assembled from low-loss laminated core inductors and polypropylene capacitors.

Pairing

Placing the port exit at the base leaves both the baffle and back of the cabinet free of any port opening. Fyne suggests amplification between 40 and 180 W RMS per channel. The easy nominal load means the F502 does not ask for a very powerful amplifier, while the upper figure of that recommendation leaves headroom for larger rooms.
