The Børresen M2 is a compact floorstander in the M-series line of Børresen Acoustics, a Danish brand owned by Audio Group Denmark. It was launched on 1 February 2025 and stands about 1.3 m tall, combining a ribbon planar tweeter with three 5 inch IronFree5 Zirconium SSE drivers, one covering bass and midrange and a pair working as woofers.

The recommended retail price is EUR 175,000 per pair, while buyers in North America pay USD 199,500. Børresen quotes a range of 30 Hz to 50 kHz within 3 dB, sensitivity of 86 dB at 1 W and 1 m, a 6 ohm impedance and an amplifier rating above 50 W. Each speaker is 129.2 cm high, 36.2 cm wide and 52.5 cm deep and weighs 64.3 kg. Buyers choose black or white piano gloss lacquer.

Engineering and use context

Zirconium baskets carry the bass units, and they are 3D printed to a topology-optimised shape, aiming at maximum stiffness with minimum resonance. Each diaphragm is a four-layer laminate of spread tow carbon fibre on both outer sides, an aramid honeycomb spacer in the middle and a titanium skin carrying the Ansuz Supreme coating. The magnet system contains no iron, and Børresen states that its inductance is around twelve times lower than that of conventional iron-core motors. Hand-made silver pole rings replace the copper rings of earlier designs to improve conductivity further, and the metalwork is deep-frozen before assembly. The RP94 ribbon tweeter works from about 2.5 kHz with a moving mass of 0.01 gram and an efficiency of 94 dB of its own. A serial crossover makes all drivers share the same current flow in the overlap region, using paper-insulated foil coils, military-grade capacitors and ultra-low-noise resistors. The internal wiring uses Ansuz Gold Signature conductors with active Tesla coil noise reduction. The curved cabinet has a recess on the back inspired by the shape of Børresen speaker stands.

Pairing

The moderate sensitivity asks for a somewhat stronger amplifier than the brand's higher-efficiency 0-series towers, while the load is easy on output stages. The cabinet size suits rooms from about 20 m2. Owners may also split the top and bottom sections across a pair of stereo amplifiers or monoblocks, since the M2 is prepared for both passive and active bi-amping.
