The Australe EZ is a passive three-way tower in the Esprit EZ series, built by the French company Triangle in its home country. Its cabinet vents through a front-mounted bass reflex port, and Triangle's guidance puts it in listening rooms of more than 30 m2.

Key specs that matter

Each enclosure carries six drive units. Two horn tweeters with 25 mm titanium domes handle the top octaves, one facing forward and one on the rear panel. A 16.5 cm midrange with a small pleat surround and a natural cellulose pulp membrane covers the middle band, and three 16.5 cm bass units with double ferrite magnets take the low end. Sensitivity is 92.5 dB at 1 W and 1 m with a nominal impedance of 8 ohm, while power handling is 150 W continuous and 300 W as a repetitive peak. The body measures 200 x 1,130 x 370 mm, growing to 300 x 1,170 x 460 mm with its pedestal attached. Net weight per unit is 38.8 kg, and each speaker ships alone in a 530 x 1,170 x 460 mm carton with a gross weight of 43.4 kg.

Engineering and use context

The rear tweeter belongs to Triangle's Dynamic Pulse System, or DPS, which uses the second unit to reduce the directivity of the front tweeter and so improve its polar response. The front tweeters sit deep in a quasi-horn with a bullet phase plug. DVAS, the Driver Vibration Absorption System, places reinforcements against the magnet assemblies to decouple the drivers from the cabinet walls. The crossover uses a second-order network for the bass section and a third-order network for the upper section, and its low and upper parts are separated, which permits bi-amping or bi-wiring through a double terminal block. Internal wiring is taken from the more expensive Signature range. Compared with the earlier Australe, the EZ version brought a new pedestal, described as a glass platform with a rubber absorbing layer.

Pairing

One amplifier can feed both terminal pairs, or two stereo amplifiers can feed the bass and upper sections separately. For home cinema Triangle groups it in a 5.0 package with the Voce EZ centre speaker, which has 91 dB sensitivity and two 13 cm mid-woofers, and a pair of Comète EZ units for the rear channels, with the Thetis subwoofer offered as an addition.

In the newer Solstice collection Triangle offers the Solstice 8, a three-way floorstander with a magnesium alloy tweeter, a 16 cm cellulose midrange and two 16 cm paper woofers.
