The F5E is the compact bookshelf member of the F500E series, which Fyne Audio unveiled at the Warsaw Audio Video Show in 2024. Fyne presents it as the most accessible way into its IsoFlare technology, and at a launch price of GBP 399.99 or EUR 499.99 per pair it became the lowest-priced IsoFlare speaker the Scottish company had produced. The same range contains the F501E floorstander, which uses a 6-inch IsoFlare unit, plus the F5E LCR and F502E LCR centre models.
Key specs that matter
One 125 mm IsoFlare unit, fitted with a multi-fibre cone, covers bass and midrange, and a 19 mm titanium dome compression tweeter is mounted in its centre. The two sections divide at 1.8 kHz, with a second-order low pass and a first-order high pass. Fyne rates sensitivity at 87 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m and gives a nominal 8 ohm impedance. Response is listed as 55 Hz to 38 kHz at -6 dB, typical in room. The recommended amplifier range is 30 to 90 W RMS and continuous handling is 45 W RMS. The cabinet is 270 mm high, 174 mm wide and 228 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 3.9 kg. Black Ash and Walnut are the listed finishes.
Engineering and use context
Locating the compression driver in the throat of the cone makes the pair a coaxial point source, so both frequency bands leave the baffle from one spot. Small flutes moulded into the FyneFlute surround damp vibrations reaching the cone edge. Instead of a rear port, the box vents downward onto a Tractrix-profile cone that is part of the BassTrax system, and the air leaves through all four sides of the base in a 360-degree pattern, which makes placement less fussy. Fyne designed the F5E to work on a bookshelf, on a stand or on a wall. The box includes two keyway brackets that bolt to the rear panel, vertical mounting guides, wood screws and buffer blocks that stop the speaker pivoting on its two mounting points, along with rubber bumper feet and a pair of magnetic grilles that attach without visible holes. The gold-plated 4 mm binding posts work with banana plugs, spades and bare wire alike.
Pairing
The easy load means an integrated amplifier or streaming amplifier within the recommended power range will drive the F5E comfortably. Fyne aims it at small and medium rooms, and the matching F5E LCR allows it to form the front of a home cinema array.
Alternatives
For a lower budget, the Fyne Audio F300i is a rear-ported bookshelf with a 25 mm titanium dome tweeter at GBP 250 per pair.
