The F500SP is the smallest model in the Special Production series from Fyne Audio, a range built by hand in the UK. It is derived from the F500 stand-mount, and the SP version adds a Special Production IsoFlare driver, a retuned crossover and the BassTrax port system, all taken from the F700 series. Fyne Audio calls the series its most affordable UK-made high-end range, and the F500SP lists in the UK at GBP 1,999.99 to GBP 2,299.99 per pair depending on finish.
Key specs that matter
This is a 2-way design with a single 150 mm IsoFlare point source driver. At the centre of its multi-fibre cone sits a 25 mm magnesium-dome compression tweeter powered by neodymium, and the handover happens at 1.7 kHz. Fyne Audio quotes a frequency response of 42 Hz to 34 kHz at -6 dB typical in room, sensitivity of 90 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m and a nominal impedance of 8 ohm. It handles 60 W RMS continuously, with amplifiers of 30 to 120 W RMS recommended. Each cabinet is 323 mm high, 200 mm wide and 320 mm deep with grille, terminals and plinth, and weighs 8.1 kg net.
Engineering and use context
The bass cone relies on a twin-magnet motor system and a FyneFlute roll surround, which is meant to reduce cone resonances where the driver terminates. Bass energy exits downward through the port and is spread by a BassTrax Tractrix cone in the plinth, leaving the front and back panels free of vents. Filtering is 2nd order on the low-pass side and 1st order on the high-pass side, and the network uses low-loss laminated core inductors, high-grade polypropylene capacitors and silver-plated OFC internal wire of the Van Den Hul Matched Crystal type. The Cryo-Lite process freezes this wiring to -170 C and thaws it slowly over several days to relieve micro-stresses in the material. The connection panel carries a fifth terminal that grounds the driver chassis to drain RF interference picked up by the amplifier or cables. Detailing includes an anodised aluminium plinth and a diamond-cut aluminium driver trim. The series keeps the conventional parallel-sided F500 cabinet and is assembled in Fyne Audio's Glasgow factory. Buyers choose between Natural Walnut veneer and piano gloss in walnut, black or white.
Pairing
With bi-wire terminals, the two crossover sections may take their own cable runs or amplifier channels. Fyne Audio lists the S-Trax position at 44 mm and the SuperTrax position at 20 mm back from the baffle edge for its add-on supertweeters. The FS6 stand is offered within the same series, and the F501SP and F502SP floorstanders complete the range for a matched multi-channel system.
