Jamo, the Danish loudspeaker brand, builds the C603 MKII as a passive two-way bookshelf model priced at USD 599 per pair. Jamo lists it in a Dark Apple wood finish and places it among its hi-fidelity home speakers, stating that it is meant for both stereo and surround use, with or without a subwoofer, for films as well as music, and for mounting on floor stands, on bookshelves or on a wall.

Key specs that matter

A 135 mm (5.25 inch) woofer with an aluminium phase plug and a 25.4 mm (1 inch) positive dome tweeter make up the driver pair. Jamo gives a bandwidth of 55 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB and a low-frequency cut-off of 48 Hz at -6 dB. Sensitivity is 86 dB measured with 2.83 V at 1 m, and nominal impedance is 6 ohm. The power rating is 100 W, with a peak figure of 140 W. Height, width and depth come to 341.5 x 175 x 282.8 mm, and a single speaker weighs 12.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

A 2.5 kHz crossover point splits the band between the woofer and the tweeter. Jamo calls the woofer diaphragm a Hybrid Composition Conical Cone, or HCCC, and the phase plug is placed at the middle of the woofer instead of a dust cap. The tweeter is mounted behind an ADW, the Anti-Diffraction Waveguide design used by the brand. Jamo also applies its Decoupled Tweeter Technology, or DTT, to the high-frequency unit. The cabinet is a bass reflex enclosure with its port on the rear panel, and it is classed by Jamo as a passive loudspeaker, so it contains no amplification or signal processing of its own and needs a separate amplifier or receiver. The combination of the rear port and the wall mounting option listed by Jamo gives buyers a choice between stands, shelves and a fixed wall position in a multichannel layout.

Pairing

Jamo recommends amplification of more than 70 W per channel for this model. A bi-wiring terminal on the back allows two cable pairs per speaker, one for each driver section, or bi-amping from two amplifier channels per speaker. In a home cinema the C603 MKII can take the front or surround channels of an AV receiver.
