FiiO has released the DP11 desktop CD player, designed to serve several roles at once – as a dedicated CD transport, a standalone source with a built-in DAC, or a component for direct connection to active speakers and power amplifiers. Its digital section is built around the Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC, while the connectivity options include both digital and analog outputs.
Particular attention was paid to the disc mechanism. The FiiO DP11 uses a full-size CD transport developed in-house, paired with an optimized servo system intended to provide more stable and accurate disc reading. To reduce vibration and mechanical noise, the mechanism is mounted on a dedicated damping assembly.
When used as a transport, the DP11 can output a digital signal via AES/EBU, coaxial S/PDIF, or optical Toslink. The built-in DAC also allows the FiiO DP11 to operate as a conventional CD player with RCA analog outputs, while its preamplifier function makes it possible to connect the unit directly to active speakers or a power amplifier. The internal architecture partially draws on solutions used in the FiiO S15 streamer, including separate power supplies for the servo mechanism, digital circuitry, and analog section.
Another feature of the FiiO DP11 is CD ripping: tracks can be copied from compact discs to an external USB drive and saved in uncompressed WAV format. The player also supports output of the original MQA stream. The FiiO DP11 is already available at a recommended retail price of $169.99.
