The ROKIT 8 Generation Five is the 8-inch model of the three fifth-generation ROKIT monitors from KRK Systems, in a range that also includes 5-inch and 7-inch versions. Gibson, which owns KRK, announced the line in late March 2024. This fifth generation of the ROKIT name brings DSP voicing, a reworked silk dome tweeter and a refreshed rear-panel display.
Key specs that matter
Bass and midrange come from an 8-inch woven Kevlar aramid fibre cone on a ferrite motor, and treble from a 1-inch copper-capped silk dome, with the crossover at 1.64 kHz. Bi-amplification is entirely class D - 135 W on the low channel and 68 W on the high channel make 203 W at 1% THD+N, and the instantaneous peak rating is 312 W. Response holds within 3 dB from 42 Hz to 36 kHz and extends from 32 Hz to 40 kHz at the -10 dB points. Rated maximum level is 111 dB SPL, and coverage is 148 degrees wide by 125 degrees high. Each unit is 400 mm tall, 266 mm wide and 319 mm deep and weighs 10.45 kg.
Engineering and use context
Three voicings are stored in the DSP. Mix is the reference setting with flat frequency and phase behaviour, Focus narrows attention onto the midrange band, and Create is the inspirational option intended for songwriting and casual listening. Voicing, level and system options are all handled through one rotary push encoder beside the rear LCD, which shows the KRK and ROKIT logos during a 5-second start-up. KRK drives the woofer and tweeter from separate class D channels to run efficiently at lower operating temperatures during long sessions. The enclosure is vinyl-wrapped MDF and its reflex port faces forward through a baffle moulded from reinforced high-impact polystyrene. Swapping between the grilled and plain magnetic front plates is done by reaching into the port and pulling the plate forward. The optional KRKSTDX68W1 bracket and KRKSTDX4A1 adapter allow wall, ceiling or 35 mm pole mounting, and an automatic standby function can be switched off in the setup menu.
Pairing
Connection is limited to one balanced analogue input, an XLR and 1/4-inch TRS combo jack at 5.12 kilohm, so the ROKIT 8 is meant to be fed from an interface, console or dedicated level controller. Noise performance is better than 94 dB on the low sensitivity balanced setting. A 5x20 mm T2A fuse protects the mains stage, and the supply is universal from 100 to 240 V.
Alternatives
The KRK Classic 8 is an 8-inch two-way monitor from the brand's simpler Classic Series, with a glass aramid woofer, 100 W split 75 W and 25 W, and a switchable bass boost.
