The ROKIT 7 Generation Five sits between the 5-inch and 8-inch models of the fifth ROKIT line, which KRK Systems introduced on 26 March 2024. Compared with the previous generation, KRK lists three new voicing modes, a revised tweeter and an updated LCD among the changes. The woven Kevlar aramid woofer, which KRK counts among its own key developments, is retained, and the company says it has spent more than three decades on monitor design since its founding in 1986.

Key specs that matter

KRK fits a 7-inch woofer with a woven Kevlar aramid fibre cone and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter with a copper cap, both using ferrite magnets, crossed over at 1.64 kHz. Two class D amplifiers deliver 97 W to the woofer and 48 W to the tweeter, 145 W in total at 1% THD+N, with a dynamic peak rating of 234 W. Response within 3 dB runs from 45 Hz to 36 kHz, and the wider +3/-10 dB range is 36 Hz to 40 kHz. Maximum output is 110 dB SPL. Horizontal coverage is 155 degrees and vertical coverage 133 degrees, averaged between 900 Hz and 9 kHz. The cabinet measures 339 mm high, 225 mm wide and 290 mm deep and weighs 7.65 kg.

Engineering and use context

Onboard DSP provides the three voicings. Mix mode keeps frequency and phase response flat for mixing and mastering, Create mode is an inspirational voicing meant for writing and producing, and Focus mode concentrates on the midrange band where vocals and most instruments carry their energy. Everything is reached through a single push and turn function knob next to a small LCD on the rear, which also shows level in 0.1 dB steps from a factory setting of 0 dB at +4 dBu sensitivity. The display switches itself off after 5 minutes of inactivity, and the whole monitor sleeps after 30 minutes without signal, or immediately if the knob is held for 7 seconds. The front-ported reflex box is PVC-wrapped MDF with a structurally reinforced high-impact polystyrene baffle. Two magnetic faceplates are supplied, one with a protective grille and one without, and KRK states that the grille leaves frequency response unchanged. Foam wedge isolation pads come in the box, and integrated points accept wall or ceiling mounts through an optional bracket and 35 mm adapter.

Pairing

The only analogue input is a Neutrik combo socket with a friction lock taking XLR or balanced 1/4-inch TRS, with an input impedance of 5.12 kilohm. There is no RCA jack, so consumer players and phones need an adapter lead. Signal to noise ratio is above 91.5 dB on the low sensitivity setting. The universal supply runs on 100 to 240 V.

Alternatives

The KRK ROKIT 5 Generation Five is the smaller sibling in the same line, using a 5-inch woven Kevlar woofer with the same three voicing modes and rear LCD.
