Moondrop is a Chinese audio brand established in 2015 by Chengdu Shuiyueyu Technology Co., Ltd., based in Chengdu, Sichuan. Best known for wired in-ear monitors, it now also makes headphones, true wireless earbuds, portable DAC and amplifier units, CD players, passive speakers and accessories. The company's founding aim was affordable earphones that would stand alongside far more expensive audiophile products, and today it operates in more than 20 countries and regions.
Range & what it's known for
The wired IEM range is the core of the catalog. At the low end sit the Chu and Chu II single dynamic driver models, followed by the Aria and Aria 2, then models such as LAN, KATO, Variations, DUSK and Solis II. The Blessing series is the best-known hybrid family, and the Blessing 2 released in 2020 combined a 1DD plus 4BA hybrid layout with a USD 320 price. The engineering approach rests on measurement and simulation. Moondrop runs several free-field laboratories and a Klippel lab, uses Audio Precision APx555 analysers and B&K Type 4128C head and torso simulators, and designs acoustic chambers with COMSOL multiphysics simulation. Product packaging and artwork lean on anime-style illustrations that have become part of the brand's identity.
Who owns it and where it's made
Moondrop is the brand of Chengdu Shuiyueyu Technology, a privately held Chinese company. Design and production stay in Chengdu, where the firm runs a 4,000 square metre facility that combines a dust-free workshop for assembly with its research and measurement labs.
The lineup in this catalog
Moondrop appears here with wired IEMs, ranging from about USD 20 up to roughly USD 500.
Who it's for
Moondrop suits listeners buying a first proper wired IEM on a small budget, with the Chu series as the obvious starting point. Owners can step up through the Aria models to hybrid designs such as the Blessing line without leaving the brand. It also fits people who want a matching portable DAC and amplifier or a pair of wireless earbuds from the same maker, since the company covers those categories as well.
