Chord Etude is the first sample of a new circuit concept, invented by the head of Chord Electronics, John Franks. Based on theoretical work on circuits with proactive forward communication instead of reverse — and Bob Cordell, the author of a textbook on amplifier circuit design, was a consultant to Chord Electronics on these issues — and ultrafast key power supplies, John Franks moved Chord amplifiers forward. Following the Etude, new circuit solutions are embodied in the ultra-expensive flagship amplifiers of the Ultima series. So, Chord Etude has lived up to expectations.
The output stage uses 32 MOSFET field-effect transistors in each channel, double-crystal, with a horizontal structure. These transistors are developed by Chord Electronics and are manufactured exclusively for ULTIMA amplifiers by a British manufacturer of microelectronic devices.
The ULTIMA 6 is the most compact stereo power amplifier in the Full Size series, introducing a new circuit design approach with proactive error correction using feedforward direct communication. The ULTIMA 6 offers 180 watts of perfectly pure output power and completely new ULTIMA circuit features to match the world's most advanced Chord Electronics DACs.
The Chord BerTTi power amplifier is built in a fully balanced concept and develops 75 watts in each of the two channels. The switching arsenal of the amplifier includes both balanced XLR connectors and unbalanced RCA inputs. High-quality gold-plated screw terminals are provided for connecting acoustic systems.
The modular Chord Suzi system, developed by John Franks, founder and owner of Chord Electronics, includes a pre-amplifier and a power amplifier that use Chord Ultima technology.
