The AT-LP70XBT-BZ-ACU is a bundle from Audio-Technica that combines the AT-LP70XBT turntable in its black and bronze finish with an official limited-edition slipmat themed on A Complete Unknown, the James Mangold film about Bob Dylan. The AT-LP70XBT itself arrived alongside the AT-LP70X as a pair of fully automatic belt-drive decks aimed at people starting a record collection, with a suggested price of USD 249. Black and silver and white and silver finishes are sold as well.

Key specs that matter

A DC motor drives the die-cast aluminium platter by belt at 33 1/3 or 45 rpm, with wow and flutter below 0.25 percent WTD and signal to noise better than 55 dB. Geometry of the J-shaped arm is 220 mm effective length and 18 mm overhang, with a maximum tracking error angle below 2.0 degrees. Its AT-VM95C dual moving magnet cartridge is fixed to the arm and cannot be removed, with a 0.6 mil bonded conical stylus on an aluminium pipe cantilever, 4.0 mV output and a recommended load of 47,000 ohms. The switchable preamplifier has 36 dB of RIAA gain and delivers 252 mV at line level. Bluetooth 5.2 transmits over about 10 m in line of sight with aptX Adaptive, aptX and SBC. The turntable measures 400 x 330 x 110 mm and weighs about 2.9 kg.

Engineering and use context

Pressing start moves the arm to the record and starts the motor, and once the run-out groove is reached the arm returns and the platter stops by itself. A lift lever allows cueing by hand, and a lock holds the arm on its rest in transit. Since the cartridge is integrated, there is no balancing, tracking force or anti-skate setting to make before the first record. Worn styli are replaced with the AT-VMN95C, and any other VM95 Series stylus also fits, which is the upgrade route for this deck. A chassis of three separate plastic parts is intended to reduce resonance, and the external 12 V adapter keeps mains conversion out of the plinth, with the whole unit drawing 1.6 W. The belt is a part specific to the AT-LP70X family and is sold separately. The package holds a felt mat, a 45 rpm adapter, a 1.0 m RCA cable, a 1.5 m AC adapter lead, a removable hinged dust cover and the platter with its belt already fitted.

Pairing

At the line setting the deck connects to active speakers or to an integrated amplifier lacking an MM input, while phono mode suits an amplifier with an MM stage. Over Bluetooth it can play through wireless headphones or speakers directly.

Alternatives

The Audio-Technica AT-LP70X is the same fully automatic belt-drive deck with the fixed AT-VM95C but without Bluetooth.
