Audio-Technica built the AT-LP3XBT as an automatic belt-driven record player that adds a Bluetooth transmitter to a conventional wired output. It ships with a headshell-mounted VM cartridge, a built-in switchable phono preamplifier and a dust cover, so it can feed a hi-fi system through cables or send audio directly to wireless speakers and headphones.

Key specs that matter

A belt from the DC motor turns the die-cast aluminium platter at 33-1/3 and 45 RPM. Wow and flutter is under 0.2% WRMS at 33 RPM, measured at 3 kHz, while signal-to-noise stays above 60 dB. The phono output delivers 4.0 mV nominal, while the line output delivers 252 mV nominal, both at 1 kHz and 5 cm/sec, with preamp gain of 36 dB nominal and RIAA equalisation. The unit measures 435.6 x 374 x 128 mm (width by depth by height), with a total weight of 5.0 kg.

Engineering and use context

Audio-Technica specifies a static balanced straight arm, 221.5 mm in effective length, with 19 mm overhang and maximum tracking error below 3.0 degrees. Stylus pressure adjusts from 1 to 4 g, and the arm accepts cartridges weighing 14.5 to 20 g including the headshell. The supplied AT-HS3 headshell carries an AT-VM95C cartridge with an aluminium pipe cantilever tipped with a bonded conical stylus of 0.6 mil, a tracking force range of 1.8 to 2.2 g and a recommended load of 47,000 ohms, and it accepts any VM95 Series replacement stylus. Bluetooth version 5.2 supports the A2DP profile with aptX Adaptive, aptX and SBC codecs, a 2.5 mW EIRP output and a range of about 10 m line of sight. A 12 V adapter powers the deck, which draws 2 W. The box includes a felt mat, a 45 RPM adapter and a 1.0 m RCA cable.

The tonearm lifts, lowers and returns automatically, and the AT-HS3 headshell weighs 11.1 g with its lead wires and offers plus or minus 8 mm of overhang adjustment. Spare parts sold separately include the AT-VMN95C stylus, the AT-HS3 headshell and a belt made exclusively for this model. The AC adapter is rated at 100 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz and 0.6 A maximum, with a 1.5 m lead, and the Bluetooth link operates in the 2.402 to 2.480 GHz band.

Pairing

With the internal preamp switched on, the line output connects to any amplifier input or powered speakers, while switching it off lets an external phono stage take the signal instead. The wireless link pairs with Bluetooth headphones or speakers, and a codec-matched receiver can use aptX Adaptive.

Alternatives

The Audio-Technica AT-LP70XBT is a lighter automatic Bluetooth deck at 2.9 kg, with a VM95C cartridge that cannot be removed.
