The Fyne Audio Vintage Classic X SP is a floorstanding loudspeaker with a retro cabinet, announced in January 2025. SP stands for Special Production, and the range bridges the Classic Series and the Vintage Series by placing Vintage engineering in updated Classic cabinets. The X SP sits between the VIII SP and XII SP and costs GBP 10,000, EUR 12,000 or USD 13,000 per pair.

Key specs that matter

The 250 mm IsoFlare unit, using a cone of mixed fibres and a FyneFlute surround, holds a coaxial compression tweeter with a 75 mm titanium dome and neodymium motor, whereas the smaller VIII SP uses a 25 mm magnesium dome with a ferrite magnet. Above it, the XII SP moves to a 300 mm driver and 96 dB sensitivity, and the XV SP uses a 380 mm driver rated at 97 dB. In the X SP the two-way crossover divides the range at 750 Hz. Fyne rates the frequency response at 28 Hz to 26 kHz at minus 6 dB typical in-room, sensitivity at 94 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m and impedance at 8 ohm. Continuous power handling is 140 W and peak handling 560 W. The cabinet measures 918 x 450 x 381 mm and each speaker weighs 43 kg.

Engineering and use context

Compared with earlier Classic models, the enclosure moves from fibreboard to dense birch ply, heavily braced and damped inside. Low frequencies leave through a downward-firing port in a twin cavity BassTrax arrangement, where an improved Tractrix diffuser spreads them in all directions at floor level. All four models in the range use a two-way reflex layout. The passive crossover uses second-order filters built from metal-clad high-power resistors and Claritycap capacitors, linked by Neotech PC-OCC cable, and each one goes through Deep Cryogenic Treatment. Five-way terminals allow bi-wiring and add a ground connection. Controls on the front adjust treble energy and the upper midrange by 3 dB. Cabinets are made in Glasgow and finished in walnut veneer with dark glazed areas and brass or gold accents, with a Clear walnut option also listed. With its size and deep bass extension, the model suits a room above 20 m2 better than a small study.

Pairing

Fyne recommends amplifiers from 20 to 280 W. The X SP is efficient and presents a benign load, so it is an easy partner for low-powered valve amplifiers, while larger transistor designs can feed it through two cable runs.
