Key specs that matter

Compared with the F1-10, the 250 mm IsoFlare driver gains FyneFlute surround technology and the bass reaches lower. Its multi-fibre cone covers both bass and midrange and works alongside a 75 mm titanium alloy dome compression tweeter placed at the cone's centre. Both use neodymium magnets. The crossover point is 750 Hz. Fyne quotes a response of 26 Hz to 26 kHz at minus 6 dB typical in-room, sensitivity of 94 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m and a nominal impedance of 8 ohm. Continuous power handling is 140 W RMS and peak handling 500 W. Each cabinet is 1191 mm tall, 405 mm wide and 581 mm deep and weighs 57.7 kg.

Engineering and use context

Because the tweeter sits coaxially inside the woofer, all frequencies radiate from one point. Finite element analysis and computer modelling guided the cabinet design. The port fires downward from a reinforced lower panel through the twin cavity BassTrax system onto a Tractrix diffuser, which spreads the low frequencies evenly around the cabinet instead of through a front or rear opening. The upgraded low-loss passive crossover uses second-order low and high pass filters, its parts list includes low-loss laminated core coils, thick film resistors of a non-inductive type, polypropylene Claritycap capacitors plus internal Neotech PC-OCC cable on vibration-damping boards, and the finished network goes through Deep Cryogenic Treatment. Connections are made through gold-plated WBT Nextgen bi-wire terminals. Potentiometers on the front baffle allow the energy above the crossover to be raised or lowered by 3 dB and the 2.5 to 5.0 kHz band to be adjusted by the same amount. The cabinet is made of high-density birch plywood and finished in Piano Gloss Walnut veneer with lacquered burr walnut inlays. Given the bulk and deep bass extension, the pair suits a room well above 20 m2.

Recommended amplifier power runs from 20 to 280 W RMS. The high sensitivity lets a low-powered valve amplifier drive the F1-10S, while the bi-wired terminals make it possible to split the signal between two stereo power amplifiers.
