The RP-8000F II is a large floorstanding loudspeaker from the second generation of Klipsch's Reference Premiere series, the brand's mid-range line that brings horn-loaded tweeter technology from its Heritage speakers to domestic stereo and home cinema systems. It is a two-way design with twin 8-inch woofers, and is the base model for the RP-8060FA II, which adds a built-in Dolby Atmos elevation module.

Key specs that matter

The RP-8000F II pairs a 1-inch titanium LTS vented tweeter in a hybrid cross-section expanded Tractrix horn with two 8-inch spun-copper Cerametallic cone woofers fitted with Faraday rings. The crossover point is 1,630Hz. Frequency response is 35Hz to 25kHz (+/-3dB), sensitivity is 98dB at 2.83V/1m and nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with power handling of 150W continuous and 600W peak. The cabinet is internally braced MDF, ported through dual-chamber rear-firing Tractrix ports, and measures 109.5 x 27.5 x 46.3cm at 27.85kg per speaker.

Engineering and use context

The Tractrix horn follows a mathematically derived profile that transfers the tweeter's output into the room efficiently and controls its dispersion to 90 x 90 degrees, directing high-frequency energy toward the listening area rather than off nearby walls. Its silicone composite face and phase plug are moulded to smooth the frequency response. The titanium tweeter's Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) reduces distortion, and its vented housing lowers internal standing waves. Cerametallic woofer cones combine stiffness with low mass to limit cone break-up, and in this generation the voice coils are 70% larger in diameter for greater power handling and control, while aluminium shorting (Faraday) rings reduce distortion caused by changing inductance. The rear ports use Tractrix geometry with flared inner shapes to reduce turbulence and port noise. Cast aluminium feet minimise contact with the floor, and the magnetic grille can be removed without visible fixings. The high sensitivity is the result of combining horn loading with lightweight woofer cones.

Pairing

Thanks to its high sensitivity, the RP-8000F II reaches high volume levels from modest amplifiers and AV receivers, including low-power designs. Dual binding posts allow bi-wiring or bi-amping of the woofer and tweeter sections. In a home cinema it matches other Reference Premiere II centre, surround and subwoofer models, keeping driver types consistent across all channels.

Alternatives

Klipsch's own RP-8060FA II uses the same main drivers with an integrated up-firing Dolby Atmos module for height channels.
