The Klipschorn 80th Anniversary Limited Edition is a limited two-way horn tower made to mark 80 years since Paul W. Klipsch patented his first design, the 1946 Klipschorn. Production is limited to 280 pairs worldwide, each assembled by hand on order by the Heritage team at the Hope, Arkansas factory. Klipsch presented it at High End Vienna 2026, and the launch price was quoted at USD 24,998 per pair with the matching Heritage Active Crossover included.
Key specs that matter
Frequency response is 34 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 2.5 dB at the minus 3 dB points, and 28 Hz to 21 kHz at minus 10 dB, both measured in 1/8 space anechoic conditions. Sensitivity is 103 dB with pink noise at 2.83 V and 1 m over 34 Hz to 10 kHz. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm with a 4 ohm minimum at 50 Hz. Power handling is 100 W and 400 W peaks under the AES pink noise standard, and calculated maximum output is 120 dB at 1 m. The crossover point is 350 Hz. Horizontal coverage is 90 degrees from 350 Hz to 20 kHz and vertical coverage 60 degrees from 1.4 kHz to 15 kHz. Each speaker measures 80 cm wide, 132 cm high and 61 cm deep and weighs 65.7 kg net.
Engineering and use context
Unlike the three-way Klipschorn AK6, this edition returns to a two-way layout. The low frequency cabinet holds a folded bass horn about 2.4 m long driven by a K-331-E 15 inch woofer. The top section uses the new K-5-K horn, sandcast in aluminum with a 2 inch throat, carrying a K-692 compression driver with a 4 inch diaphragm whose motor structure comes from the Klipsch Jubilee. The external active DSP crossover manages phase, time delay, EQ and gain between the woofer and the horn and includes adjustable low and high frequency trim controls. The enclosure is 19 mm MDF finished in book-matched Tigerwood veneer, with a brass inlay tracing the contour of the folded horn. Each pair ships with a 180 g vinyl pressing of early 1950s KlipschTape stereo recordings, some never released before, plus a membership of the Klipsch Museum of Audio History. The Heritage warranty runs 10 years.
Pairing
The active crossover splits the signal before amplification, so two amplifier channels per side are required, feeding woofer and compression driver separately, connected through 5-way binding posts. The woofer channel should be stable into the impedance minimum in the bass region.
Alternatives
The Klipsch Klipschorn AK6 is the regular production model, a three-way fully horn-loaded floorstander with a passive network and 105 dB sensitivity.
