The RP-6000F II is a passive floorstanding speaker from the second generation of the Klipsch Reference Premiere series,. It follows the original RP-6000F and comes in ebony vinyl or walnut vinyl, both with satin-painted baffles and a scratch-resistant coating. Klipsch Group, the maker, is based in Indianapolis and owned by Voxx International.
Key specs that matter
A pair of 6.5 inch Cerametallic woofers, each fitted with Faraday rings, handle everything below 1,770 Hz, where a 1 inch vented titanium LTS tweeter takes over from a Tractrix horn with an expanded hybrid cross-section. Klipsch quotes a frequency response of 38 Hz to 25 kHz within 3 dB and in-room sensitivity of 96 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms. Power handling is 125 W continuous and 500 W peak. The tower is 100.6 cm tall, 23.6 cm wide and 44.6 cm deep, and it weighs 22.4 kg.
Engineering and use context
The second generation brought a larger 90 x 90 degree horn built from silicone composite material, and it combines a phase plug with a compression-molded silicone face. Klipsch vents the tweeter enclosure so that standing waves inside it are reduced. The redesigned Cerametallic woofers gain aluminium shorting rings to cut distortion and raise power handling, and a new motor structure for tighter control of cone movement. Inside, the MDF cabinet is braced and divided, and the bass reflex loading uses two chambers, each with its own rear Tractrix port, whose flared inner ends reduce turbulence and port noise. Because the ports face backward, the tower needs breathing room behind it. Cast aluminium feet replace MDF or ABS plinths, reducing floor contact area and decoupling the cabinet. Dual aluminium binding posts on a new input panel make bi-wiring possible, and bi-amping too when outboard crossovers and separate amplifiers are used. Hidden connections on the rear accept RP-500SA elevation modules for Dolby Atmos, with the required cables included. The grille is flexible and fixes with magnets.
Pairing
Its very high efficiency and benign impedance put the RP-6000F II within reach of mainstream AV receivers and stereo integrated amplifiers, and the continuous power rating defines how much power it is designed to accept. At this efficiency, tube amplifiers of modest output also become a practical choice.
Alternatives
The Klipsch RP-5000F II sits in the same Reference Premiere II line as a smaller tower, with dual 5.25 inch Cerametallic woofers, 95 dB sensitivity and response down to 40 Hz.
