The Q10 belongs to the three-strong Q Series from Scansonic HD, whose speakers are designed and built in Denmark by the same people who make Raidho loudspeakers. The series places the Q3 at entry level and the Q8 in the middle, and the Q10 above them with twin woofers. Announced European prices were EUR 13,000 per pair in black and EUR 15,000 in natural walnut veneer, the two finishes available across the line.

Key specs that matter

The Q10 uses three-way bass reflex loading with one ribbon tweeter, one 5.25-inch carbon fibre midrange and two 8-inch carbon fibre woofers. Crossover frequencies are 400 Hz and 2800 Hz. Scansonic specifies a frequency response of 41 Hz to 20 kHz measured at -6 dB, an impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 88 dB. Recommended amplification is a minimum of 50 W. The cabinet is 240 mm wide, 1395 mm tall and 500 mm deep, and each speaker weighs 37.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

All Q models use a quasi-ribbon tweeter matched with diffusers made of woven carbon fibre, and each carries a crossover developed in-house by the Danish company. The front baffle stays narrow even though it carries two bass units. Splitting the bass duty between two woofers gives more total cone area than the single 8-inch unit of the Q8, which suits higher playback levels. The Q3 at the bottom of the range is a 2.5-way design with two 5.25-inch woofers, so the Q10 and Q8 are the two true three-way models of the series. A single midrange covers the middle band, leaving the ribbon to take over above the upper one. Scansonic lists the Q10 as particularly well suited to large rooms and to home cinema use, and the series was designed around a rigid body with attention to assembly quality and finish. Carbon fibre cones for both midrange and woofers keep the moving parts stiff while holding their mass low.

Pairing

Given the low impedance, the amplifier should be specified for low-impedance operation and meet the Scansonic power minimum, with more power useful in the large spaces the Q10 is intended for. Solid-state integrated amplifiers and pre and power combinations with stable low-impedance ratings are the natural match. For home cinema, a pair of Q10 speakers can take the main front channels, fed by an AV processor with external power amplification of sufficient current capability.
