The Figaro XLm2 is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker in the second-generation Figaro range from AudioSolutions. The original Figaro line appeared in 2018, and the Mk2 generation was presented five years later, at the 2023 Munich High End exhibition. The range now runs from the Figaro C2 and B2 through the BL2, S2, M2 and L2 to the XLm2 and XL2, and the new styling adds brass metal accents and a set of satin colours to the high-gloss options.
Key specs that matter
Each XLm2 carries seven drivers. A 19 mm silk dome tweeter sits in a Mini-Horn flare, two 15.2 cm midrange units with ER paper cones cover the middle band, and four 18.3 cm bass drivers with the same cone material handle the low end. Crossover points are 400 Hz and 4,000 Hz. AudioSolutions quotes an in-room response of 28 Hz to 25,000 Hz, a sensitivity of 92 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a suggested amplifier power of 20 to 700 W. Each cabinet measures 1,710 mm high, 272 mm wide and 472 mm deep, or 1,740 x 396 x 472 mm once the outriggers are fitted, and weighs 95 kg, with a shipping weight of 125 kg per speaker.
Engineering and use context
The Mini-Horn loading targets the weak points of a soft dome, such as breakup, by applying acoustic damping at the front of the dome, and the maker says this damping grows as playback level rises. Because the midrange is designed as an Extended-Band unit, both crossover points were moved about one octave away from the 1 to 2 kHz region in which human hearing picks up distortion most readily. The ER cones combine traditional paper with hardening materials so that they move as a piston without ringing. Borrowed from the costlier Virtuoso models, the Cabinet-In-a-Cabinet enclosure bonds two separate shells with a thin polyurethane film, so vibration absorbed by the inner shell is converted into heat. Height-adjustable spike outriggers replace plain feet, and WBT NextGen terminals allow bi-amping. Standard trim comes in Pearl White, Zink Grey and Dark Grey gloss, while the Bespoke trim adds four satin colours, and further personalisation runs through the brand's online configurator.
Pairing
According to AudioSolutions, the XLm2 was engineered as a load that most amplifiers handle without difficulty. The bi-amp terminals let owners with two stereo amplifiers split the bass from the upper section. The maker also notes that each cabinet may be positioned near a rear wall, which simplifies installation.
Alternatives
The AudioSolutions Figaro XL2 is the bigger Figaro tower above it, with four 23.3 cm bass drivers, a 24 Hz lower limit and a 115 kg cabinet rated for 20 to 900 W.
