The Vantage S is the smallest floorstander of the whole Vantage 5th Anniversary collection from AudioSolutions, the Lithuanian speaker maker. The collection marked the firm's fifth anniversary and was meant to break with classical styling and set the design tone for later products. The cabinet slopes upward, so its front edge reaches only 104 cm while the back edge rises to 121 cm. The maker reports reaching a level of 112 dBC at a listening point 3 m away in a 55 m2 room, using music rather than a test tone.
Key specs that matter
The S is built around five drivers per box. A customised 2.5 cm beryllium dome tweeter and a 13.5 cm Egyptian papyrus wideband midrange cover the upper bands, two front-firing 15 cm SPC paper drivers handle the bass, and a 22 cm aluminium cone woofer fires downward. Crossover points are 50 Hz, 200 Hz and 8,000 Hz. AudioSolutions lists an in-room range of 26 Hz to 30,000 Hz, a sensitivity of 91 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. The cabinet is 392 mm wide and 553 mm deep, and it weighs 55 kg.
Engineering and use context
Siberian birch plywood forms the internal labyrinth, sidewalls and curved top. Because this birch grows slower than the ordinary tree, it is denser, and the maker states that the resulting cabinet outperforms aluminium. The panels are an 18-layer stack of thin oriented wood sheets with some HDF in critical positions, held together by three kinds of glue that set to different hardness, and the bends leave internal stress that damps resonance. Software was used to model surfaces free of resonance. As on other AudioSolutions products, a mini horn around the tweeter lowers distortion and lifts efficiency in a critical band. Unlike the Vantage B, which has no front-firing woofers, the S pairs its down-firing subwoofer with front-firing bass drivers. The durable top coat is a lacquer and crushed stone powder mix, and the rear and sidewall cutouts use top-grade 3D vinyl with a hexagonal texture that survived damage tests better than veneer, leather or paint.
Pairing
AudioSolutions suggests amplifiers from 30 to 400 W RMS. WBT terminals allow bi-wiring. Wet stone grey is the base colour, with outline accents in a shade the buyer picks, and hexa-style feet covers match those outlines.
Alternatives
The Vantage M, one size up in the same collection, uses a 17 cm papyrus midrange, two 18 cm bass drivers and a 26 cm down-firing woofer in a 75 kg cabinet.
