The Vantage L is a four-way floorstander in the Vantage 5th Anniversary range from AudioSolutions of Lithuania. It is a development of the older Vantage Classic speakers, bringing new outlines as well as different materials and manufacturing technique. Smaller members of the range are the Vantage M, Vantage S, Vantage B and Vantage C, and AudioSolutions states that all of them share the same scale, depth and tone.
Key specs that matter
Each cabinet carries five drivers. A customised 2.5 cm beryllium dome tweeter sits above a 19 cm wideband mid driver whose cone is Egyptian papyrus, while two front-firing 22 cm paper bass drivers work alongside a 32 cm woofer that fires toward the floor. Crossover points sit at 50 Hz, 200 Hz and 6,000 Hz. AudioSolutions quotes 18 Hz to 30,000 Hz, a sensitivity of 92 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m and a nominal load of 4 ohm. The cabinet measures 1700 x 570 x 800 mm and weighs 140 kg.
Engineering and use context
AudioSolutions designed the Vantage enclosures to be far more rigid than any of its previous speakers. Siberian birch plywood, which grows more slowly than ordinary birch and is therefore denser, forms the internal labyrinth, the sidewalls and the curved top. The structure was modelled in software for resonance-free surfaces, and the many bent panels retain internal stress that the maker uses to damp resonance, a technique it has applied since its start. The board is an 18-layer sandwich of thin oriented wood sheets with HDF in critical places and three glues of different cured hardness. A mini horn, standard across AudioSolutions products, surrounds the tweeter to reduce distortion and raise efficiency in a critical region. The top coat blends crushed stone with polyurethane lacquer for a matte finish with glittering particles, and top-grade 3D vinyl with a hexagonal texture covers the back and the sidewall cutouts; the maker reports that damage tests showed it to be tougher than veneer, leather or paint. The colour is wet stone grey with customisable outlines and matching hexa-style feet covers.
Pairing
The recommended amplifier range is 100 to 1,000 W RMS. Jantzen top-grade parts populate the crossover, and WBT terminals are fitted for tri-wiring.
Alternatives
The Vantage M from the same range has a 17 cm papyrus midrange, two 18 cm bass drivers and a 26 cm down-firing aluminium woofer in a 75 kg cabinet.
