The EPIKORE 7 is the most compact tower in the EPIKORE range from DALI of Denmark, described by the maker as a 3.5-way floorstander for medium to large rooms. It was announced in 2024 together with the EPIKORE 9 and the EPIKORE 3 stand-mount, below the EPIKORE 11 that had appeared in 2023, and DALI presents it as an evolution of the EPICON series with parts derived from the KORE. The UK price is GBP 19,999 per pair, and DALI develops and builds the speaker in Denmark.
Key specs that matter
Two 7 inch bass and midrange drivers work with the EVO-K Hybrid Tweeter module, made up of a 35 mm soft dome and a 10 x 55 mm planar magnetostatic element. The network hands over at 800 Hz, 2,500 Hz and 12,500 Hz. Rated frequency range is 35 Hz to 34,000 Hz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 88 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m, nominal impedance is 6 ohm and the maximum level is 110 dB at 1 m. DALI recommends amplifiers between 40 and 400 W. A single cabinet measures 1120 x 380 x 420 mm and weighs 40.5 kg with its grille. Buyers can choose high gloss black, walnut or maroon, each with a Shadow Black grille.
Engineering and use context
Both bass and midrange drivers are new designs with unusually large neodymium motors that use SMC Gen-2, DALI's patented magnet compound, to reduce loss and distortion. Their paper and wood fibre cones gain Clarity Cone treatment intended to damp unwanted resonances. The EVO-K module was first developed for the KORE, uses powerful neodymium magnet systems for both of its elements, and leaves the band above 12.5 kHz to the planar strip. Its dome was developed in-house at an unusually large size, and the planar part is an improved version of the wide-dispersion element DALI used before. Low-frequency output is reinforced by two continuous-flare ports at the back, curved and flared inside the cabinet. The slim, curved cabinet is internally braced, veneered in real wood and finished in piano lacquer, and the shipping weight for a pair is 97.6 kg.
Pairing
The relatively high nominal impedance makes this the easiest EPIKORE tower to drive, and a mid-sized integrated amplifier within the suggested band is a practical match, while larger power amplifiers also stay within the stated ceiling. Bi-wire terminals allow two runs of cable or two amplifier channels, and bridging links are provided when only one cable pair is used. Magnetic spike feet with floor protection pads, magnetic grilles and a cleaning cloth are supplied, and DALI grants five years of warranty cover.
Alternatives
The DALI EPIKORE 9 is the four-way tower directly above in the same range, built for larger listening spaces.
