The SONIK 9 heads the SONIK range from DALI, a seven-model family that went on sale worldwide from 2 February 2026 as the successor to the OBERON line of 2018. The range consists of the SONIK 1 and SONIK 3 compact monitors, the SONIK 5, SONIK 7 and SONIK 9 towers, a SONIK On-Wall and a SONIK Cinema centre. Suggested pricing for the SONIK 9 is EUR 2,398, GBP 2,199 or USD 4,500 per pair. DALI intends it for large rooms, for stereo listening and for multichannel home theatre alike.
Key specs that matter
Three 7 inch woofers work under a hybrid tweeter that combines a 29 mm low-loss soft dome with a 17 x 45 mm planar magnetostatic unit. The network follows a 2½ + ½-way principle, dividing the band at 400 Hz, 2,100 Hz and 14,000 Hz. Response extends from 34 Hz to 30,000 Hz within 3 dB, sensitivity is 90 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, and the nominal load is 4 ohms. Output tops out at 111 dB at 1 m, and the recommended amplifier range is 50 to 300 W. Rear Dual Flare reflex ports are tuned to 35 Hz. The tower measures 1126 x 318 x 376 mm and weighs 24.6 kg with its grille. Black ash, walnut, natural oak and white are the four finishes.
Engineering and use context
Each woofer uses the SMC Essential motor, in which a ferrite ring surrounds a hybrid pole piece of iron and Soft Magnetic Composite. This places the SMC material directly in the working zone of the voice coil, and DALI credits the arrangement with a sharp reduction in third-order harmonic distortion. The motors use a double magnet to focus the field. Cones follow the Clarity Cone construction, a membrane built from paper and wood fibre and shaped to limit resonance. In the hybrid module the dome carries the upper midrange and lower treble, and the planar unit joins only above 14 kHz to widen dispersion at the top. The enclosure is CNC-machined MDF with rigid internal bracing and separate chambers for the woofers. The ports are flared at both ends so that air leaves with little turbulence.
Pairing
The low nominal impedance and the lower end of the power band point toward transistor amplification able to hold up into low impedance. A single set of binding posts is fitted, ruling out bi-wiring, and they accept bananas, spade lugs or stripped cable. DALI suggests 20 to 120 cm between the cabinet and the rear wall. Aluminium outriggers take metal spikes for carpet or rubber domes for hard floors, and the grille attaches magnetically without visible pins.
Alternatives
The DALI SONIK 7 is the smaller tower in the same range, weighing 16.2 kg with grille and priced at EUR 1,498 per pair.
