The Børresen 05 Silver Supreme Edition is the highest version of the 05, the tallest model of the 0-series of the Danish loudspeaker company Børresen Acoustics. The model was presented on 4 March 2021 as part of the launch that introduced the Cryo and Silver Supreme editions. Over the EUR 110,000 Cryo version the silver upgrade adds EUR 56,670 per pair. It keeps the seven-driver two-and-a-half-way cabinet of the standard 05 and combines two upgrades - the cryogenic cycle for all metal parts and pure silver pole rings in every bass/midrange motor.
Key specs that matter
The European list price for a pair is EUR 166,670, with optional Darkz Z2S decoupling feet, eight units in total, listed at EUR 3,400. Silver across the six woofer motors weighs about three kilograms per speaker. Børresen specifies 25 Hz to 50 kHz, 90 dB for one watt, an impedance that stays above 5 ohm and an amplifier recommendation above 50 W. The cabinet measures 30.5 x 155 x 58 cm (W x H x D) and one speaker weighs 75 kg, with walnut veneer as one finish.
Engineering and use context
Standard and Cryo versions separate the neodymium-52 ring magnets of each iron-free motor with copper rings. Here those rings are replaced by silver parts turned and finished by hand at the factory, because silver conducts roughly 6 to 8 percent better than copper, and the company says this substantially lowers inductance, already under 0.04 mH in the regular drivers. The silver then goes through the same three-day deep-freeze sequence as magnets and wiring. Six woofers share the bass - two with 11.5 cm cones and four with 15.5 cm cones - all using carbon skins over a 4 mm Nomex honeycomb. A ribbon planar tweeter with a moving mass of 0.01 gram operates from about 2.5 kHz. Filtering is serial, with vacuum-impregnated coils and military-spec foil capacitors, and air leaves the ported box via three metal-diffused vents. The feet are height-adjustable and accept the Darkz elements, and the Ansuz noise circuits used in the speaker need a bias voltage of 14 V.
Pairing
The high efficiency and an impedance that stays high make this a benign load for solid-state or tube amplification. Given the size of the cabinet, a room larger than 20 m2 gives the four big woofers room to work.
Alternatives
The Børresen 03 Silver Supreme Edition uses the same silver pole rings in a smaller 124.1 cm cabinet with four woofers.
