The Børresen 03 Silver Supreme Edition is the top tier of the 03 floorstander produced in Denmark at Børresen Acoustics, one of the Audio Group Denmark companies. It was announced on 4 March 2021 together with the Cryo Edition range, and it stacks two upgrades onto the standard 03 enclosure - the deep-freeze treatment of every metal part plus hand-made silver rings inside the bass/midrange motors.
Key specs that matter
At launch the European pair price stood at EUR 99,500 per pair, against EUR 67,500 for the 03 Cryo and EUR 59,500 for the plain 03, so the silver work alone accounts for a EUR 32,000 step. Published figures list an upper limit of 50 kHz, 88 dB for one watt, an impedance above 4 ohm and a recommended amplifier rating above 50 W. Each cabinet stands 124.1 cm high, 30.5 cm wide and 58.0 cm deep and weighs 38.0 kg.
Engineering and use context
In the patented Børresen motor the magnet rings are separated by pole rings, which in the standard and Cryo versions are copper. For the Silver Supreme models the company machines these parts itself from silver, which it names as the metal with the highest specific electrical conductivity, roughly 6 to 8 percent better than copper, and it states that the swap cuts driver inductance substantially. The silver rings then pass through the same three-day cryogenic cycle as the rest of the metalwork - a day of cooling, a hold near -196 degrees C and a gradual return to room temperature to avoid thermal stress. The maker says the treatment drives alloying elements from the grain, leaving a metal close to a monocrystal. The Cryo process covers both the 0-series and the Z-series, but silver rings are reserved for the top 0-series models. The motors use no iron, relying on opposing neodymium ring magnets, and the diaphragms sandwich a Nomex honeycomb core between thin carbon skins. A planar ribbon tweeter covers the top octaves above roughly 2.5 kHz, and the serial crossover keeps the same current flowing through tweeter and woofers where their bands overlap.
Pairing
Its moderate footprint let this model fit rooms of around 20 m2 better than the larger 05. A stable load, combined with the low power recommendation, allows many solid-state integrated amplifiers from the Aavik side of the same group or elsewhere.
Alternatives
For a bigger room the Børresen 05 Silver Supreme Edition carries this motor upgrade into a taller seven-driver cabinet with 8 inch woofers.
