Within DALI's entry-level SPEKTOR series, the SPEKTOR 2 is the larger bookshelf model, and the Danish maker gave it a bigger internal volume so that a compact cabinet could deliver bass closer to a floorstanding speaker. DALI also designed it to fit any position in a surround system, from the front pair to the rear channels. At the end of 2021 a pair was priced at USD 400 in the US, and a 2023 European list price was EUR 330 per pair.
Key specs that matter
Frequency range is given as 54 Hz to 26,000 Hz within 3 dB. Measured with 2.83 V at 1 m, sensitivity is 84.5 dB, and the nominal impedance is 6 ohms. The two-way layout crosses a 5.25 inch woofer over to a 25 mm soft dome at 2,600 Hz. Maximum output is 105 dB SPL at 1 m, while amplifiers from 25 to 100 watts are suggested. The cabinet measures 292 mm in height, 170 mm in width and 238 mm in depth, and one speaker weighs about 4.2 kg. Walnut and black ash vinyl finishes are listed.
Engineering and use context
The woofer was sized to raise the achievable sound pressure level, which DALI notes is helpful where compact speakers have to fill a bigger space. Its cone combines wood fibre pulp and fine-grain paper for a membrane that is stiff and light, and the uneven structure of the material keeps unwanted resonances down. The cone angle and dust cap were optimised for integration with the tweeter and for dispersion. For the tweeter, DALI uses woven fabric with a moving mass of 0.056 mg per square millimetre, less than half that of typical soft domes, so the dome can play the lowest part of its range without break-up during the handover to the woofer. The maker says its custom drivers need no frequency correction in the crossover, giving near-zero signal loss in the filter, and the wide dispersion pattern makes positioning more flexible. A reflex opening at the back vents the enclosure. Each speaker has one pair of terminals that takes spades, banana plugs or bare wire, and the box includes a wall bracket, rubber feet and a manual.
Pairing
DALI describes the SPEKTOR 2 as amplifier friendly, suited to nearly every stereo amplifier or surround receiver in its price class. Given the low end of the suggested power band, even modest integrated amplifiers are within range, and the moderate impedance keeps current demands in check. Mounted on the included bracket, a pair can also work as surrounds with an AV receiver.
Alternatives
The smaller SPEKTOR 1 in the same DALI range uses a 4.5 inch woofer and a 21 mm dome in a 2.6 kg cabinet.
