The OBERON 1 C is a compact active wireless speaker from DALI of Denmark and the smallest box in the OBERON C family, which also includes the OBERON 7 C tower, the OBERON ON-WALL C and the OBERON VOKAL C centre model. It appeared in early 2021 and has since been discontinued. In the US it listed at USD 1,499 per pair, without the hub, which is sold separately. The pair comes with a quick start guide, mains cables, grilles, rubber feet and silicone bumpers.

Key specs that matter

Inside every enclosure are a 29 mm soft dome tweeter and a 5.25 inch mid and bass unit using a wood-fibre composite diaphragm. A full active 24 bit DSP crossover divides the signal at 2,350 Hz, and two Class D amplifiers rated at 50 W each drive the units separately. DALI specifies 100 dB for signal-to-noise. DALI quotes a range of 39 Hz to 26,000 Hz within 3 dB and a maximum level of 106 dB at 1 m. The rear-ported reflex enclosure is tuned to 52 Hz. The speaker measures 274 x 162 x 234 mm and weighs 4.2 kg. Finishes are black ash, light oak, dark walnut and white.

Engineering and use context

The OBERON C models are designed specifically for use with the DALI SOUND HUB or SOUND HUB COMPACT, which gather sources and send them to each speaker over a proprietary link. Audio travels uncompressed at 96 kHz in the 5,150 to 5,250 MHz and 5,725 to 5,875 MHz bands, and typical latency stays under 15 ms. Pairing uses a LINK & CONNECT button on the rear panel, which also cycles through the channel positions shown on a small indicator matrix. Up to ten speakers can join one hub. The woofer motor carries the patented SMC disc to lower mechanical distortion, and the cabinet is built from CNC-machined MDF panels with internal damping. Mains input is universal from 100 to 240 V, peak draw is 62 W, and standby takes 1 W, rising to 1.25 W in networked standby, which the speaker enters within 20 minutes.

Pairing

DALI suggests placing the OBERON 1 C on a stand or shelf between 1 and 50 cm from the rear wall, and for stereo keeping the pair no less than 0.75 m apart. A keyhole slot allows hanging on a single screw, and the matching CONNECT Stand E-600 is another option. The SOUND HUB COMPACT handles stereo only, while the full SOUND HUB with its optional HDMI module can feed multichannel setups built from OBERON C models.
