In DALI's RUBIKORE range, the ON-WALL is the low-profile model for hanging on a wall or placing on a shelf, and the Danish brand presents it as a multipurpose speaker for both stereo pairs and multichannel systems. It combines a 6.5 inch Clarity Cone woofer with a rotatable version of the DALI Hybrid tweeter in a braced cabinet that uses the wall itself as part of its reflex port. The company's RUBIKORE brochure from May 2024 lists it in three finishes - High Gloss White, High Gloss Black and Natural Walnut.
Key specs that matter
Frequency range is 59 Hz to 34,000 Hz within 3 dB, sensitivity 88.5 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m and nominal impedance 4 ohms. The maximum SPL is 108 dB at 1 m. A 2 + 1/2-way crossover divides the signal at 2,900 Hz and 14,000 Hz between the woofer, a 29 mm soft dome and a 17 x 45 mm planar magnetostatic tweeter. Recommended amplifier power is 20 to 150 watts. The reflex tuning frequency is 49 Hz. The cabinet is 465 mm tall, 278 mm wide and 142 mm deep. One speaker weighs 8.5 kg with the grille attached and 9.5 kg when packed for shipping.
Engineering and use context
The woofer diaphragm is a Clarity Cone made from paper and wood fibre, driven by an SMC magnet system that DALI fits to lower distortion. The tweeter module holds two elements. The dome is a new low-loss design that works without ferrofluid, and its diaphragm is a soft woven fabric, while the planar magnetostatic strip handles the highest frequencies above the upper crossover. Because the whole module can be rotated, the speaker can be mounted in portrait orientation for left and right channels or turned horizontal for use as a centre. DALI braces the enclosure internally to make it rigid and inert. The rear-facing port relies on the wall surface to complete its loading. The recommended gap to the wall behind is 0 to 30 cm, and the maker lists a shelf as an alternative to the wall. Inputs are single-wire terminals. The box contains a front grille, rubber feet, a manual and, with the gloss finishes only, a polishing cloth.
Pairing
Such a low impedance calls for an amplifier or AV receiver that is specified into such loads, and the modest lower limit of the recommended range shows that the speaker does not need a large amplifier to run. In a surround setup, three ON-WALL units can cover left, centre and right, with the tweeter module turned for the centre position.
Alternatives
The discontinued DALI RUBICON LCR is a wall speaker of the same size, rated at 89 dB sensitivity and 109 dB maximum SPL with a 3,100 Hz lower crossover.
