The Genelec G Five is a two-way active loudspeaker in the Genelec G Series of home speakers, alongside the G One, G Two, G Three and G Four. Genelec presents it as the G model for higher listening levels and larger spaces, for music, films, TV and gaming. It is offered in white as G5AWM and in black as G5AMM.

Key specs that matter

The G Five uses a 205 mm cone woofer plus a 25 mm metal dome tweeter, and separate Class AB amplifiers are rated 150 W for the bass and 120 W for the treble. The active crossover divides the band at 1,800 Hz. Frequency response is 32 Hz to 25 kHz at the -6 dB points, with accuracy of 2.5 dB between 38 Hz and 20 kHz. Short term maximum output is at least 110 dB SPL and long term output at least 101 dB SPL, while self-generated noise stays at or below 10 dB SPL. With the Iso-Pod stand the cabinet measures 452 x 286 x 278 mm, and weight is 14.4 kg.

Engineering and use context

Its cabinet is built to Genelec's MDE, or Minimum Diffraction Enclosure, principle, cast from aluminium with rounded edges and gently curved front and sides to keep frequency response flat. The tweeter sits in a DCW, or Directivity Control Waveguide, intended to give a flat response both on and off axis. A long, curved reflex tube maximises airflow so that deep bass is reproduced without compression. The Iso-Pod support provides vibration isolation and damping and lets the cabinet tilt by up to 15 degrees in either direction to aim its axis. Protection circuitry automatically reduces output when needed to prevent driver failure. ISS, or Intelligent Signal Sensing, switches the speaker to a standby state drawing less than 0.5 W once the input goes quiet, and a rear switch disables this function when constant operation is preferred. Rear panel room response compensation switches adapt the output to the acoustic surroundings.

Pairing

Because the amplifier is contained within the speaker cabinet itself, no bulky external power amplifier is needed, and the G Five connects directly to a source with a volume control. It provides one RCA and one XLR analogue input, each with 10 kOhm impedance, so it accepts both consumer and balanced professional outputs. Genelec offers table stands, floor stands, ceiling mounts, wall brackets and truss mounts for it.
