The BR02 CONNECT is a pair of powered stereo bookshelf speakers from Triangle, the French maker, and the smaller of the two active models in its Borea Connect range, below the BR03 CONNECT. This two-way design brings Class D amplification, a DAC and a wide set of inputs built into the master cabinet, so a TV, turntable, computer and phone can all play through one pair without separate electronics. Triangle lists it at USD 625 per pair and aims it at rooms of 8 to 20 m2.

Key specs that matter

In each enclosure a 13 cm woofer with a natural cellulose paper cone works with a 25 mm EFS silk dome tweeter set in a waveguide. The Class D stage delivers 2 x 50 W RMS into 8 ohm. Triangle quotes 51 Hz to 22 kHz at plus or minus 3 dB, a sensitivity of 89 dB/W/m and a nominal impedance of 8 ohm with a 3.6 ohm minimum. Each enclosure is 176 mm wide, 310 mm high and 274 mm deep. The master speaker weighs 5.3 kg and the slave 4.9 kg, with 11.3 kg gross for the boxed pair.

Engineering and use context

The master houses an ESS 9018K2M converter, which accepts PCM up to 384 kHz and 32 bit and native DSD256 through the USB-B port for a Mac or PC. In total there are five digital and three analogue inputs - HDMI ARC with CEC for a television, USB-B, Bluetooth 5.0, optical and coaxial, plus RCA line, a 3.5 mm mini-jack and an RCA phono input with its own moving magnet preamplifier. Supported Bluetooth codecs are SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Low Latency and aptX HD, the last one carrying 24 bit and 48 kHz streams. A balanced crossover in each cabinet divides the signal between the two drivers. Triangle supplies a 3 m cable to link master and slave, a radio frequency remote with a range of 15 m, two magnetic fabric grilles, eight rubber pads and a mains lead. Seven finishes are offered - oak, light oak, black, cream, burgundy, green and blue.

Pairing

Because the phono input has its own preamplifier, a record deck fitted with an MM cartridge connects straight to the master speaker, and a CD player or streamer can use the RCA line input or one of the digital inputs. No separate amplifier is required anywhere in the chain. A dedicated subwoofer output lets a powered sub extend the bottom octave where the small woofers run out of extension. Triangle offers its S01, S02 and S05 stands for placement away from a desk or shelf.

The Triangle BR03 CONNECT uses a 16 cm woofer, 2 x 60 W of Class D power and a 90 dB/W/m rating for rooms of 15 to 40 m2.
