The Borea BR04 is a compact French two-way speaker with a reflex port, designed by Triangle, and it takes over from the BR03 within the Borea hi-fi and home theatre collection. Announced on 2 June 2025 at EUR 549 per pair, with Triangle's North American price set at USD 649, it can stand on a dedicated stand, a shelf or a counter, and Triangle lists it for rooms of 10 to 40 m2 whether the system is a stereo hi-fi setup or a home cinema installation.
Key specs that matter
A 25 mm silk dome tweeter and a 16 cm mid and bass driver share the signal, with the crossover point set at 3,200 Hz. Response runs from 44 Hz to 22,000 Hz within 3 dB, and sensitivity is rated at 90 dB. Nominal impedance is 8 ohm. Triangle recommends amplifiers of 25 to 130 W into 8 ohm, while power handling is given as 110 W. Each cabinet measures 220 mm wide, 425 mm high and 314 mm deep, and weighs 8.6 kg. Six finishes are offered.
Engineering and use context
The tweeter uses the Borea EFS (Efficient Flow System) arrangement, in which the fabric dome sits inside the start of a horn shaped waveguide, and it is driven by a neodymium motor fitted with a heat sink. Its mid and bass diaphragm consists of 100 percent natural cellulose pulp that receives no surface treatment, and its profile was reworked for the BR04 to reduce distortion at higher frequencies. Compared with the BR03, the cabinet has been enlarged, the front mounted reflex port redesigned and the crossover upgraded to separate the mid and bass band from the treble more cleanly. Inside, the DVAS (Driver Vibration Absorption System) combines perforated MDF with rigid EVA foam panels, and high density EVA foam joints sit at the reinforcement points to cut cabinet vibration. Double binding posts on the back allow bi-wiring or bi-amplification. Each pair ships with two magnetic grilles that attach without visible inserts or screws, plus eight rubber feet for decoupling the cabinet from the surface below.
Pairing
With the doubled posts, an owner can drive the tweeter and the mid and bass section from separate cables or from two amplifier channels. Within the Borea collection the BRC1 centre channel and the BRA1 effect speakers extend a pair of BR04s into a home cinema layout. The same collection also holds the BR08, BR09 and BR10 floorstanding models.
Alternatives
The Borea BR03 sits below the BR04 among Triangle's Borea stand-mount speakers, at 380 mm tall and weighing 7 kg.
