The AVR-X2800H DAB is the version of Denon's 7.2-channel 8K AV receiver that adds a DAB digital radio tuner to the AM and FM bands, sold for markets where DAB+ broadcasts are available. It runs seven discrete amplifier channels, decodes object-based surround formats and has HEOS whole-home streaming built in.

Key specs that matter

Rated output is 95 W per channel into 8 ohm from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 125 W into 6 ohm at 1 kHz, and 185 W into 6 ohm when only one channel is driven. The HDMI board, with six inputs of which three are 8K-ready and two outputs, supports 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, with HDCP 2.3 and passthrough of HDR, HLG, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and Dynamic HDR, and 4K sources can be upscaled. For audio sources there is an MM phono input, two optical inputs, one coaxial input and four analog inputs, alongside a front USB port and a headphone jack. The rear panel carries seven speaker terminals and two subwoofer pre-outs. The unit measures 430 x 330 x 150 mm and weighs 9.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Seven processing channels allow a 7.2 bed or a 5.2.2 layout with height speakers. Decoding covers Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Surround, DTS HD Master and DTS:X, while DTS Neural X upmixes older soundtracks and DTS Virtual X plus Atmos height virtualization simulate overhead channels. Network music comes through HEOS, Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Pandora and TuneIn, and the receiver carries Roon Tested certification. Supported files include MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, WAV and DSD at 2.8 or 5.6 MHz. Bluetooth, Ethernet and Wi-Fi are all built in, and the unit accepts spoken commands via Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri or Google Assistant. Qobuz is listed among the streaming services too. A Pure Direct mode and a Compressed Audio Restorer are included, and a step-by-step video setup assistant guides first installation. Game consoles benefit from VRR, QFT and Auto Low Latency Mode passthrough, and the TV connection uses eARC. The front panel has a 1-line FLD display. Power draw is 500 W in operation, 35 W in ECO mode, under 2.0 W in network standby and 0.1 W in normal standby.

Pairing

The Zone 2 function with assignable amplifier channels lets two of the seven channels drive a pair of speakers in another room. Two multichannel pre-outs let an external amplifier take over channels, and Audyssey MultEQ XT automatic calibration is included with a microphone. The RC-1253 remote comes pre-programmed and is not a learning type, and the Denon AVR Remote app offers phone control.

Alternatives

The Denon AVR-X3800H is a larger 9.4-channel receiver from the brand, rated at 105 W per channel.
