The 1080p inputs are fine for older disc players or set top boxes, while the optical inputs can take a CD transport or an older games console without HDMI audio. The two analogue inputs suit a CD player or an outboard phono preamp, and the multichannel pre-out leaves room for a separate power amp at a later stage if more headroom is needed for the front pair.
