The AVC-X8500HA is a 13.2-channel Denon surround receiver that integrates the HEOS multi-room platform. It carries 13 discrete power amplifiers of monolithic design, enough to run a 7.2.6 or 9.2.4 speaker layout without any external amplification. Maximum HDMI resolution is 8K at 60 Hz or 4K at 120 Hz.
Key specs that matter
Denon specifies 150 W per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.05 % THD with two channels driven. At 6 ohms and 1 kHz the rating is 190 W at 0.7 % THD with two channels driven and 210 W at 1 % THD with one channel driven. The pre-out section offers 15.2 channels, and two independent subwoofer outputs are fitted. HDMI connectivity includes seven rear inputs, one front input and three outputs. The chassis measures 434 x 482 x 195 mm and weighs 23.3 kg, and operating consumption is 900 W.
Engineering and use context
Because processing and pre-outs extend beyond the 13 internal amplifiers, two further channels can be run from an outboard amplifier. The HDMI section supports eARC, CEC and HDCP 2.3, together with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG. The decoder accepts Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master, DTS:X, Auro-3D and IMAX Enhanced, with DTS Virtual X for systems that lack height speakers. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 comes with Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume and LFC. Three zones are supported, and the third HDMI output serves Zone 2. The amplifier section uses a mono block construction with left and right channels separated. Gaming support covers ALLM, QMS, QFT and VRR, Bluetooth is built in, and Josh.ai and Apple Siri can control playback, volume and inputs. Network playback runs through HEOS and AirPlay 2 with Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and TuneIn, and file support covers FLAC and WAV at 192 kHz and 24-bit with DSD accepted up to 5.6 MHz.
Pairing
The two subwoofer outputs can each feed a separate powered subwoofer, and the 15.2 pre-out allows the front channels to be moved to a dedicated stereo power amplifier if more output is wanted there. Six rear analog inputs and one front input use gold-plated RCA terminals, and two optical, two coaxial and a USB audio input are added. Legacy video gear connects through four composite and three component inputs, with two composite and one component output provided. An MM phono input accepts a turntable without an external phono stage.
Alternatives
The Denon AVC-X6800H is a smaller receiver in the range, with 11 power amplifiers and a 434 x 389 x 167 mm chassis.
