The AVR-S670H is an entry point to Denon's 8K surround receivers, with 5.2 channels and the HEOS streaming platform. It sits below the 7.2-channel AVR-S770H in the Denon S-series and was listed by Denon in the United States at USD 649. Decoding tops out at Dolby TrueHD and the DTS-HD Master format, so the receiver has no Dolby Atmos or DTS:X processing.
Key specs that matter
Five discrete power amplifiers are rated at 75 W per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.08 % THD. Into 6 ohms at 1 kHz Denon quotes 100 W per channel at 0.7 % THD and 150 W at 10 % THD. Supported speaker impedance runs from 4 to 16 ohms. In Direct mode the analog frequency response spans 10 Hz to 100 kHz within plus 1 and minus 3 dB, with a 98 dB S/N figure. The MM phono stage has an input sensitivity of 2.5 mV and holds RIAA deviation within 1 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The receiver weighs 7.8 kg, and power consumption is 340 W in operation and 0.1 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Six HDMI inputs are provided, three of them 8K-capable, along with one HDMI output with eARC. The HDMI section passes 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz with the full 40 Gbps bandwidth, scales video up to 8K, and handles HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG and Dynamic HDR. ALLM, QFT and VRR are supported for gaming. Decoding also covers Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS Surround and DTS 96/24, and upmixing of two-channel signals to five channels uses DTS Neo 6 or Dolby Pro Logic II. HDCP 2.3 is supported. Over eARC the receiver takes lossless TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio from the TV, while plain ARC is limited to 5.1 formats or PCM. Audyssey MultEQ is included with Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Network features cover HEOS, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Prime Music and TuneIn, and Roon Tested status applies. Hi-res files in ALAC, FLAC and WAV play up to 192 kHz and 24-bit, and DSD at 2.8 and 5.6 MHz is accepted. Voice commands are accepted from Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Siri and Josh.ai.
Pairing
A pair of subwoofer outputs can feed two powered subwoofers, and a multichannel pre-out is fitted. Other sources connect through two analog inputs, a front USB audio input and three digital inputs, two of them optical and one coaxial, while the phono socket takes a record player directly. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both built in. ECO mode, a sleep timer and auto power-off manage energy use, and standby draw in CEC mode is 0.5 W.
Alternatives
The Denon AVR-S770H is the next model up, which adds two amplifier channels and decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
