The AVC-A1H is a 15.4 channel 8K AV receiver from Denon with HEOS multiroom streaming built in. Introduced in 2022, it carries the A1H name of the Denon A series. The chassis holds fifteen discrete power amplifiers, so a full 9.4.6 layout runs from the unit alone without external power amps.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 150 W per channel into 8 ohm from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.05 percent distortion with two channels driven. Into 6 ohm at 1 kHz the figure is 190 W at 0.7 percent with two channels driven, and 210 W at 10 percent with one channel driven. Fifteen channels are processed, and the pre-outs cover a 17.4 channel layout, with four independent subwoofer outputs. There are 17 gold-plated speaker terminals. Seven HDMI inputs, all 8K capable, feed three HDMI outputs, one of them with eARC. Audio inputs include five analogue sets with one XLR pair, two optical, two coaxial and an MM phono stage. The case measures 434 x 498 x 195 mm without antenna and weighs 32.0 kg.
Engineering and use context
Supported formats are Dolby Atmos with music and height virtualisation, DTS:X Pro, Auro-3D, IMAX Enhanced, MPEG-H and 360 Reality Audio, and lossless files up to 192 kHz and 24 bit as well as DSD streams can be played. Conversion is handled by ten two-channel ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC chips, and processing runs on a dual-core 1 GHz DSP engine. HDMI 2.1 connections pass 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz, with HDR10+, Dolby Vision and upscaling, and gaming functions include ALLM, VRR and QFT. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 is supplied, and HEOS links the unit to other HEOS speakers and to streaming services over Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth also available for phones and tablets. Power draw reaches 1,100 W in operation, idles at 80 W with ECO mode on or 160 W with it off, and falls to 0.1 W in standby.
Pairing
A single balanced XLR input suits a CD player or DAC with balanced outputs, while the built-in phono input accepts moving magnet pickups without an outboard preamp. With fifteen amplifier channels on board, owners wanting more headroom for the front left and right speakers can route those through the pre-outs to a stereo power amplifier and use the internal amps for the rest.
Alternatives
The Denon AVC-X6800H is a smaller 11.4 channel receiver in the X series, rated at 140 W per channel with 13.4 channel processing.
