The Denon AVR-X1800H DAB is a 7.2-channel AV receiver with 8K video support, HEOS multiroom streaming and a DAB/DAB+ tuner in addition to AM and FM with RDS. It is the European variant of the AVR-X1800H, is supplied in black, and Denon positions it for small to medium-size rooms.

Key specs that matter

Output comes from seven discrete high-current amplifiers, giving 80 W per channel into 8 ohm across 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.08% THD with two channels driven, which Denon describes as enough to drive most speakers in a mid-size room. Into 6 ohm at 1 kHz Denon lists 120 W at 0.7% with two channels driven and 145 W at 1% with one channel driven. Speaker layouts include 7.2 and 5.2.2 for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Six HDMI inputs, three of them 8K capable, feed one HDMI output with eARC. The unit measures 434 x 339 x 151 mm without antenna and weighs 8.6 kg, while the shipping carton is 523 x 435 x 232 mm. Standby consumption is 0.1 W and the mains supply is 230 V at 50 Hz.

Engineering and use context

The HDMI section passes 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz with HDCP 2.3 and supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dynamic HDR and HLG. The Dolby Surround upmixer spreads legacy content across all speakers, and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization gives an overhead effect without a 5.1.2 layout. DTS virtual height processing works in 7.1, 5.1 or 2.1 setups. Audyssey MultEQ XT handles calibration, guided by an on-screen setup assistant. Dolby Atmos music from Apple Music, Amazon HD and TIDAL can be played through a compatible streaming device. A compressed audio restoration mode is provided for lossy files. Network features include Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and services such as Spotify Connect, Tidal, Deezer and Amazon Music, and the receiver is Roon tested with playback up to DSD 5.6 MHz. Alexa and Siri voice control are supported, and the receiver can be operated through the Denon AVR Remote app or a web browser interface. A Zone 2 output extends playback to a second room.

Pairing

Older sources can use two analogue audio inputs, two optical digital inputs, two composite video inputs and a USB audio input. The MM phono stage takes a record player without a separate preamp, and a front headphone jack is included. The two subwoofer outputs can drive a pair of powered woofers. HEOS lets the receiver group with Denon Home speakers and other HEOS devices around the home.
