The BasX A3+ is a three-channel BasX power amplifier from Emotiva, which Emotiva introduced on 1 February 2025 at a list price of USD 799. It updates the original BasX A3 of 2021, mainly by adding balanced inputs and microprocessor monitoring, and is aimed at the front three speakers of a home cinema or at supplementing an AV receiver.

Key specs that matter

Emotiva rates the A3+ at 140 W RMS per channel into 8 ohms with all channels driven from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at below 0.1% THD, and 200 W RMS per channel into 4 ohms at 1 kHz below 1% THD. With two channels driven, output rises to 150 W into 8 ohms and 250 W into 4 ohms per channel. Frequency response is 10 Hz to 80 kHz at +0/-1.8 dB and power bandwidth is within ±0.02 dB. Sensitivity is 1.25 V, gain is 29 dB and input impedance is 27 kohms. THD plus noise is under 0.02% A-weighted, A-weighted noise more than 112 dB down and damping factor above 500 into 8 ohms. Every channel has both an RCA and a balanced XLR input. The chassis measures about 432 x 102 x 394 mm without connectors and weighs about 11.3 kg.

Engineering and use context

The amplifier channels are Class A/B, running from an oversized toroidal transformer and linear power supply. Microprocessor-controlled monitoring supervises operation, and the protection system reacts to excessive temperature, shorted loudspeaker outputs and ground faults. The balanced XLR inputs carry each signal as two opposite-polarity legs, so interference picked up along a long cable is cancelled at the input, which helps when the amplifier sits in a rack away from the processor. Trigger input accepts 5 to 12 V AC or DC, and a 12 V output can switch another amplifier. The supply adapts to 115 or 230 V mains automatically. Loudspeakers connect to 5-way binding posts, the case is steel behind a milled aluminium front panel, and the warranty period is three years. Its low height leaves room for it on a shelf under an AV processor.

Pairing

AV processors with balanced pre-outs connect over XLR, while receivers with RCA pre-outs use the unbalanced inputs. The input sensitivity is reached by standard processor outputs, and the 4 ohm minimum load covers most home cinema front speakers. A second BasX amplifier can take over the surround channels.

The original Emotiva BasX A3 is the earlier three-channel version with the same power ratings and RCA inputs only, launched at USD 499.
