Mordaunt-Short Performance 9 is an active subwoofer. It has an unusual layout: in a cubic-shaped housing, on opposite sides, there are two radiators with a diameter of 25 centimeters with a long-stroke movable system. There is a large bass reflex port in front.

Each speaker has two 16.5-centimeter bass drivers with metal diffusers, a midrange/woofer with a diameter of 13 cm and a proprietary 25mm tweeter with an aluminum dome.

The model has a new crossover (hence the XR in the name) reduces the overlap of the drivers' operating lanes, which expands the directional pattern of the speakers and makes them less capricious to the location.
