The CD6007 is a slimline CD player from Marantz that plays standard CDs as well as recordable CD-R and CD-RW media through a centre-mounted drive and adds a front USB-A port for music files on a memory stick. It does not play Super Audio CD. The US list price is USD 650, and the player is sold in Black or Silver-Gold with a metal front panel.
Key specs that matter
For CD playback Marantz quotes a range of 2 Hz to 20 kHz, 110 dB signal to noise, 100 dB dynamic range, total harmonic distortion of 0.002 % and channel separation of 98 dB. D/A conversion runs at up to 192 kHz and 24 bit with a multi-bit delta-sigma design. The original information sheet lists an AK4490 converter, which also handles the digital filter and noise shaping, while later product literature names an ES9010K2M SABRE Premier 32-bit chip. Through the USB-A socket the player reads WAV, MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC HD, ALAC and AIFF files up to 192 kHz and 24 bit, plus DSD up to 5.6 MHz. The case is 440 mm wide, 338 mm deep and 104 mm tall, and it weighs 6.5 kg. Power draw is 32 W in use and 0.3 W on standby.
Engineering and use context
Two selectable digital filters are offered for CD playback, and an accurate system clock drives the converter. After conversion an HDAM module forms the low-pass filter stage and an HDAM-SA2 module buffers the line output. The headphone section is a fully discrete amplifier built around HDAM-SA2 with its own volume control, gain adjustment and a circuit that switches it off when no headphone is plugged in, so it adds no interference during speaker listening. Power comes from an EI-type transformer, and the rectifier circuits for the analogue and digital sections are kept separate. A double-layered bottom plate, an extra metal plate that stiffens the chassis and rigid feet reduce vibration reaching the circuit boards. A dimmer and a display-off setting are provided, program play stores up to 25 tracks, and random and repeat modes are included. An auto power off function and a detachable mains cable are fitted.
Pairing
Gold-plated RCA outputs feed the analogue signal into a spare line-level socket on an integrated amp or preamp. One optical and one coaxial digital output send the raw digital stream to a separate DAC or a recorder instead. The supplied RC004PMCD system remote also operates a Marantz amplifier and network player, and a D-Bus link connects the player to other Marantz components.
