CD/SACD-проигрыватели и транспорты — Marantz CD 60

The CD 60 is a CD player from Marantz, listed on the brand's US site at USD 1,100 and offered in black or in silver-gold. Marantz presents it as the disc partner for the MODEL 40n integrated amplifier, and on price it sits between the slimline CD6007 at USD 650 and the networked CD 50n at USD 2,000. Besides discs, it reads hi-res files from USB storage through the same converter.

Key specs that matter

An ESS ES9016K2M chip converts the signal and feeds an output stage built from HDAM and HDAM-SA2 modules. With CD, the player covers 2 Hz to 20 kHz with 0.0015% harmonic distortion, 118 dB signal-to-noise and 101 dB dynamic range. From USB, PCM at 24 bit reaches 0.0005% distortion and 118 dB for both signal-to-noise and dynamic range, while DSD gives 0.0006% and 110 dB, with a response of 2 Hz to 50 kHz. The fixed RCA line output delivers 2.2 Vrms, and the headphone socket provides 28 mW into 32 ohm. Discs can be CD, CD-R or CD-RW, with MP3 and WMA files readable from burned discs. The front USB-A port supplies 5 V at 1 A, reads FAT16 and FAT32 drives and plays MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD in DSF or DFF form, with PCM up to 192 kHz at 24 bit and DSD up to 5.6 MHz. The chassis measures 442 x 129 x 396 mm and weighs 7.5 kg, and consumption is 38 W, or 0.3 W on standby.

Engineering and use context

Marantz calls its discrete Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules HDAM and arranges them symmetrically in the CD 60 output circuit, supported by large capacitors and Schottky barrier diodes in a high-current supply built around an EI-type transformer. Two digital filters can be selected. The headphone amplifier combines a high slew rate op-amp with HDAM-SA2 and offers low, mid and high gain settings for different headphone loads. The coaxial and optical digital outputs can be switched off when unused, and the display has a dimmer. The front panel is aluminium, while the chassis, side covers and top cover are made from SECC steel. Tuning was carried out by the Marantz Sound Master, and the brand gives a five-year warranty in the US.

Pairing

As the player has only a fixed line output, it needs an amplifier with volume control, and the MODEL 40n is the model Marantz names for it. An external DAC can take the signal from either digital socket. RC-5 remote bus terminals with an internal or external switch let one handset control a Marantz system, and US units add a flasher input.

Alternatives

The Marantz SACD 30n is a costlier disc player at USD 3,500 that keeps a custom HDAM output stage and adds HEOS network streaming.
